When looking into staying in Fukuoka, we decided to book this hotel even though we couldn't read the reviews (as we are foreigners).
We booked through a site at home called Expedia and it came up cheaper than staying in a dorm room in the middle of the city (between the 2 of us). Granted we are off peak season for such a resort and it is a little way out of the city, but if you have a JR railpass there is connections from the Skinkansen in Hakata (20 minutes) or a complimentary shuttle bus - perfect.
I am actually sitting in my room at the moment overlooking the bay - we have 2 double beds, a Plasma TV, Fridge, full ensuite, a selection of 3 pools and countless restaurants downstairs. Its luxuary and its got its own private beach which is not the most beautiful but still pretty nice for the price!
We love it here - gives us a break from the hostels.
The only thing I will say is this hotel is not used to having English travellers and a majority of the staff speak very limited English, but we do not mind as they are so friendly and curteous and really we should be the ones speaking Japanese. This hotel excels at customer service, with some of the friendliest most professional staff I have met.
We extended for 3 nights as its so easy to travel into the south island to Nagasaki/Aso etc from here and then jump on the Shinkansen back to Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka.
This is a real find and if we ever return to Japan in the summer we will definately stay here. Oh I nearly forgot - this hotel is very popular for Japanese weddings so it can get a little noisey at times - but also seeing the people dressed up is another added bonus - we don't want to leave
