We choose this hotel as the rooms were spacious and had fantastic views of Lake Biwa. Transport to Kyoto and more locally to Otsu - Enryaky-ji on Mt Hiei (UNESCO World cultural Asset) was fairly easy to negotiate, even with 2 small children. The buffet breakfast was very good but pricey at the present exchange rate (2200 yen for adults) and the best value restaurant in the hotel for dinner is the coffee shop. We found a quirky, but good "German" restaurant for dinner about a 5-10 minute walk along the lake from the hotel. The luggage service from Kyoto Station to the hotel was very useful. If you miss the hotel shuttle to or from Otsu train station, it will take you about 40 minutes to walk the distance, and most of it will be along the pleasant lakeside promenade.
