My girlfriend and I tried to book something in Kyoto but for the amount of time we were spending (six nights of a two-week trip) and the amount of luggage we had to haul around, night-to-night is Kyoto wasn't an option. We found the Otsu Prince Hotel and booked there.
The room was spacious and the view was beautiful but we were happy to go back to Tokyo. Everything seemed to be pretty expensive inside the hotel. There wasn't really anything to do in Otsu (compared to Kyoto), and we couldn't really find anywhere to eat within a reasonable walk. The hotel itself didn't really feel comforting and seemed sterile.
It may be a great place for business but wasn't good for a young couple interested in meeting people and having a couple low-key nights by our hotel.

Rooms are quite spacious, and you can enjoy the breathtaking view of Biwako! There is also a convenient store on the ground floor of the hotel, so you can buy souvenirs and a wide selection of great Japanese sweets there.

there’s a shop in this hotel. as long as i know, there’s not much different price (mostly same price) to buy a products at japan… so, i think it’s ok to buy something at hotel too :)

you just need to walk about 10 minutes to go to malls/supermarket 24 hours near.
for malls, there’s parco and seibu.
at parco there’s 100yen shop too :)

Just like the country, this hotel had great service but extremely over priced. 2000 yen to go into the pool (1000 to swim, 1000 for a chair) that you're a guest of? I don't think so. It wasn't even that big and nice. Food was decent, nothing to wow about. The service was good- It took the hotel staff no more than five minutes to respond to any problems or concerns Ive had. The shuttle bus stopped running @ 9 clock? And the fare from the Otsu train station to the hotel was 1500 yen . The room was a decent size- Ac was very low even though it was high. I chose this hotel because I was visiting Kyoto during the Gion Matsuri festival and it was the only hotel not booked .
