In this medium size city this is a great business hotel. The rooms are on the small size, bit it is Japan. Some very good local resturants near by and a Mc Donalds accross the railroad station. Tokyo is 1 hour by train and from there Narita is about 45 minutes. Most people say the Japanese under 20 can speak english--wrong! . Have fun.

We have a great team at Port Utsunomiya and we all try our best to provide a clean, safe and enjoyable experience - at a great price
You comments about nearby restaurants and bars is a good travel tip, we also have a convenience store with in the hotel complex
Access as you pointed out is relatively easy and we are the gateway to the Historic and truly beautiful Nikko region

“Excellent deal, good base for visiting Mashiko Ceramics village.”
The room was very clean, small, 10 minute walk from Utsu station. I used it to go to Mashiko Village. 7-11 around the corner. There are good eating places in Utsu station, the restaurants around the hotel are open only during meal times, don't seem to cater to foreign tourists (only Japanese signs). Just my guess. The views are not beautiful, so don't expect anything more than a good budget hotel.
Pack a reading light if you like to read in bed. All the lighting is overhead.
There are 2 pc's with free internet in the lobby.

“Nice hotel”
Rooms are small to US standards, even UK standards. But the hotel has good services, good bed, free (wired) internet, free parking and is veryt centrally located close to numerous restaurants within walking distance. All in all very nice hotel!

Utsunomiya is the gateway to Nasu and Nikko and it was fantastic to see you were able to visit both of these areas.
I always advise guests to try to take the time to make the trip to Nikko - I believe that it is one of the most beautiful regions in Japan, and as they say Nikko is Nippon
