“Harbour-view, modern, good location, cheap, value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2011

Yokohama Sakuragicho Washington Hotel is a tall building with shopping centre/restaurants downstairs. Harbour view covers its best parts, Yokohama Landmark Tower and World Porters. Room is very clean and modern. 5 mins walk to Sakuragicho station. Hotel is a typical business hotel with a flat rate. The only drawback is that hotel reception is on the fifth floor and there is no sign in English states that. If you don't know Japanese and don't ask people, you are unable to find it.

“Nice option in great area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2011

We stayed here from December 31 through January 3, 2011. We were probably the only foreigners at this hotel, not to mention the entire neighborhood of Minato Mirai, but we felt comfortable and had a great stay despite the small room and even got to see fireworks on New Year's eve. Our choice to stay here was because of a great deal through hotels.com however location pretty much dictates where we stay when we travel and this is a prime position in Yokohama, approximately a 3 minute walk from the train station with easy access to Tokyo. Didn't pay extra for the buffet because we do not care for buffet breakfasts but there are plenty of other options incl. the family mart on the lobby level. For the price we paid we'd highly recommend this hotel - it is the only nice budget option in Minato Mirai and location alone makes it a prime contender.

“Bad customer service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2010

Not happy at all about the customer service, not of Japanese standards.

When arriving, I have asked a non-smoking room but they claimed they didn't have any left and was given one stinking like hell. When entering the first time, my bathroom had some hair in the tube which is not the best thing you may find.
A few days later I have asked for a recipt for the the breakfast but there was no way to conviced him - language was not the reason.
When checking out, I have kindly asked to return two unused breakfast tickets - paid 1,500 Yen each in advance - but they answered: "No refund". Then I have asked to have at least a credit for dinner at the restaurant but answer was again negative.
Finally, breakfast is nothing special and every morning the same, in my opinion not worthed the 1,500 Yen.

Definitely will not go back there again, I am sure there are better hotels in Yokohama.

“Decent Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2010

Hotel is right near a train station, and very close to the Landmark Tower area. I stayed here 5 nights for a conference being held at the Convention Center near the Pacifico. It was a pleasant 10 minute walk, most of which was through the shopping mall underneath the Landmark/Queens towers. Location was very good, especially for the price (some other hotels do have better locations.

My room had an incredible view of Mt. Fuji from the window. I was kind of surprised, as most of the view was of an adjacent building, and I was not there much during daylight at first - it wasn't until a couple of days into the trip that I looked over and noticed the rest of the view!

There are quite a few restaurants in the same building as this hotel, and the whole shopping center beneath the Landmark/Queens towers is a very short walk (and there are tons of restaurants there). There's a convenience store in the lobby - not sure if it's 24 hours, but it was open pretty early and late at least.

On checkin, I found I had been assigned a smoking room. I thought I had requested non-smoking, but the 3rd party that made the reservation evidently didn't list it (I checked and found it wasn't on my confirmation from them, so they probably never sent it to the hotel). The staff was nice enough to give me a non-smoking room, which also turned out to be an upgraded room! The bed and the room were a bit larger (though still a tight fit), and I was on a higher floor (with a good view, as mentioned).

Breakfast was very good. The room had wired internet. The room was VERY small, with little space to move around. I've been in smaller hotel rooms, but this one was certainly in the small category. The room they upgraded me to was a bit bigger, but still tight.

I had one major problem. When I returned to my room one night, the door would not open. Somehow the latch that you use to lock the door had been knocked back over the post, meaning it couldn't be opened (and it wasn't a lock issue). I've never had something like that happen before, and I think maybe it had something to do with the sliding curtain for the closet being right next to the door, and pushing the latch over when the door was closed. In any case, they put me in another room for a while (maybe 2 hours) until they managed to get in to my room (not sure how they eventually got in!).

I'm not used to the whole "leave your key in a slot by the door" system, and twice ended up locking my key in the room - they were always very polite about getting me a replacement.

As you can tell, the service here was really excellent, and dealt with all of my problems very courteously. Leaving my luggage in storage the last day worked well, also. I don't really have any complaints about the hotel, and I'd stay here again/recommend it. But, it's overall just a pretty normal hotel.
