Toyoko Inn Narita Kuko took me by surprise because the room was much bigger than what I was accustomed to seeing from this chain - I've slept in many Toyoko Inns but this was the biggest room I've ever encountered. The shuttle from the airport takes about 10 minutes to reach the hotel. As typical of this chain, the staff was friendly and the cleanliness was impeccable. This particular Toyoko Inn also serves dinner (other Toyoko Inns usually only serve breakfast), no doubt keeping the tired travelers in mind. Again, nothing fancy about the meals - a simple curry dinner and riceball breakfast - but it does the job. The only drawback is the location because there is no convenience store around, but that can be said about many hotels near Narita Airport. Overall, a great hotel that meets all the basic needs for one night, at a very reasonable price.

This hotel needs updating BUT the staff are extremely polite and helpful. A free supper was served of cuury and rice up to 9pm, basic but helpful . The breakfast buffet is very basic too but there is a courtesy coach to the airport. The rooms are enermous, twice the size of any other we stayed in during our 2 tours of Japan. The bed was very comfortable and you could arrange your own wake up call by phone in the room. It had a safe, a fridge and cooker in a small kitchenette so you could have a snack too. The bathroom was looking in need of updating but everything worked. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, don't be put off by the decoration! Good value and close to the airport for a morning flight.

A special mention for the hotel staff and management. We arrived there during the ash cloud disruption, and as this is the airport hotel it was swamped with stranded travellers. They laid out free dinner and tried everything to make the disruption as painless as possible, and even signed us up to their frequent traveller scheme to get 30% off even though we were very unlikely to come back to Japan soon. In normal times I guess it is a convenient, affordable place to stay to catch an early flight. There is a free shuttle service to the airport terminal also.

We are big fans of the Toyoko Inn chain hotels, as they offer clean, modern, comfortable rooms in the Japanese cities at reasonable prices. This particular Toyoko Inn was a nice surprise because the room was HUGE, about 3x the normal size of the Toyoko rooms in other cities. Also, you just can’t beat the location – less than 5 min drive from the airport. You can also just walk there in about 15 min. There is a frequent free shuttle (every 15 min) to get you to and from with ease. But be warned, there is not much in the way of restaurants or things to do/see in the immediate area. There are a couple of convenience stores near the hotel and of course the shops and restaurants in Narita airport, terminal 1, which are very convenient for a quick and cheap bite to eat (Subway, McDs, bagel shop). If you are looking for a place to run or walk, there is a riverside pathway just to the west of the hotel, about 500m away across the motorway.

As mentioned above, the rooms are big - much, much bigger than standard business hotels. We even had a small kitchenette area and a sitting area. We actually had a real bathroom, not one of the modular micro-bathrooms, which was nice for a change. The room was very clean, quiet, and comfortable and we had a great sleep. The carpets were a bit stained and the wall paper tatty in a few places, so could be due for replacement soon. The LCD TV had a few English channels, including CNN and a movie channel that played the same movie over and over and over (Duplicity, with Julia Roberts and Clive Owen). It was good the first time around.

Free breakfast and dinner are included in the price. Neither meal was anything to write home about but they were sufficient. There are about 6 free internet terminals in the expansive lobby for net surfing, and there was a small laundry as well. The staff were very attentive and friendly, always eager to help out where they could, and check-in and check-out were painless and efficient. Overall I felt this was an excellent value hotel for about $90 for a double room. I would definitely recommend this place to other travelers and I will stay here again if I happen to be transiting through Japan.
