I stayed at this hotel as alternative in Sapporo were all full, and was not disappointed. While its location is certainly not ideal for visiting Sapporo, that is not this hotel's purpose. Going to Otaru or Sapporo is done from the local train station, which is about 10 minutes walk through the shopping mall, or a 2 minute taxi ride.
Most of the customers seem to be Japanese couples and families on weekend breaks, attracted by the very large adjacent shopping mall and the area's attractions. I understand occupancy rate is high in the winter.
Half the rooms face the marina (pleasure boat harbor) and the sea beyond; the other rooms face green mountains, which is also pleasant and not a big downgrade. Both sides are very quiet.
Rooms are furnished in a modern style with some very nice local touches, such as blown glass and sculpted wooden door handles; they are also very spacious by Japanese standards, and I think better than much higher priced hotels in Sapporo.
The restaurant serving breakfast has some strange priorities for seating (young couples seem to get the window-side tables in preference to more mature customers), but has very tasty breads, some of the best I have tasted in Asia.
