“Fantastic onsen hotel in Hakodate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2010

I booked a Japanese room with outdoor bath at the balcony facing the ocean. The hotel tatami was using Tempur mattress and pillows and we had the best sleep in the Hokkaido trip. The breakfast was fantastic and we sat beside the window where you could see snowing during the winter season. The public onsen was very spacious and clean. Hotel staff was very attentive and they greet us with sparkling wine or hot beverages when we checked in at the hotel lobby. Overall, I'm very impressed with this hotel and will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends.

“excellent stay with own private bath and good view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2010

stayed in this ryokan for a night and we are very impressed with their fantastic service.

the only drawback of the ryokan is that it is situated far from JR hakodate station and is only accessible either by the tram or bus.
though we had a little difficulty in getting there, but once we got off the tram and were trying to cross over to the ryokan, the hotel staffs were quick to run over to help us with our luggages and we were very impressed with their service.

the room we stayed has its own private hotspring and footbath, and faces part of the sea and city view. at night, be it soaking in the footbath or either the hotspring, it was very relaxing as we were in our own private room and at the same time, we get to enjoy the scenic night view of hakodate. you can even open the windows for a full unobstructed outside view..
we love our room very much not only because of the private hotspring and footbath, but also due to the cosy feeling as it is very clean and very roomy and is a traditional ryokan style with a big tv, nice toilet and good comfy futon (tempur mattress and pillow...) and the hotel staffs came in to arrange the futons while we were out for the dinner buffet which was an excellent meal.

“You can't complain when you have a private bath overlooking the water”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2010

This hotel is directly on the beach, although the beach is nothing to look at and seems to be very industrial in nature. The buildings on either side of the hotel are industrial as well.

We stayed in a Japanese/Western room facing the ocean with a private outdoor ofuro. The room was dated, with blankets instead of duvets on the twin beds (we used the futon duvets instead), worn carpet, a small bathroom, and an ancient nightstand. The pillows were plentiful (again, we used those in the Japanese side of the room). The hotel was quiet, except for the lobby music which is piped through the hotel at such a volume you can hear it in your room during the day. There is no internet in the room, but there is internet by the front desk.

The hotel is showing its age, with a lobby that looks like the old Price-is-Right set. However, the attentive staff more than make up for this.

The public baths were clean and lovely. The open air bath at sunset was wonderful. Our private bath showed signs of sediment buildup and was surrounded by an unsightly metal fence and aging hotel exterior - but who cares when you are in your bath at night looking out at the squid fishing????

The buffet at the hotel was very nice with many different dishes to choose from. We were there two nights and had different options during each meal.

I can't reiterate enough how kind and attentive the staff were.

“wonderful ryokan (Japanese inn) with en-suite thermal facilities”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2010

Wonderful (yet pricey) ryokan. We booked their best room with see-view and thermal bath-tub on the room balcony, Simply amazing. The food was delicious and typical of Hokkaido. The lack of internet connection is the only shortcoming (although it is nice to relax and forget about everything else)
