“Unreasonable costly, only if no other choice”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

Room is like Japanese "Showa" era, 70s or 80's, with very antique TV and desk set, interior, only price is up-to-date modern flavor. Staffs are mostly busy for taking care of large groups and no care about loud party. Good location at Kurashiki city center but all restaurant are unreasonable expensive.

Car parking staff never remember us during our 10days stay, really not welcome to stay parking in daytime.

I see no value to stay here unless you travel in large group.

Room Tip: - Rooms not in banquet hall side - Not near elevator

“Location is its strong point”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 April 2010

The location is the best - within walking distance to the walking street and the museums. The room was somewhat small and bedding needs to be changed. Bathroom was very clean.
Staff was most helpful.
We ate at "French" restaurant and it was not what we consider French food - actually rather awful, expensive and we experienced inattentive service. Breakfast buffet was okay but not comparable to any others we experienced in Japan.

“Worn & Tired, but Clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 April 2008

The hotel is currently working on its exterior, but the inside needs renovation. The rooms are big and clean. But they are very outdated. The blown glass chandelier is a nice touch, but a strange modern appotinment in such an old room. The carpeting is the halls appears to have been flooded at some point. The elevator has a bright red floor is small and kind of scary. Staff was pleasant and helpful.

“Nondescript Hotel With Pleasant Surprises”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2007

We stayed 2 nights in December. Although the exterior of the hotel was nothing to write home about the rooms were comfortable, clean and warm. Front office staff was helpful. Free use of the Business Centre where you can have access to Internet.

Hotel was in an excellent location, Only 10 min. walk from the railway station and just a stone's throw away (less than 5 minutes on foot) from the old Biken Distrcit with its very charming canal, old houses many restaurants and shops.

Kurashiki itself is a very charming town . Would like tro visit again during the autumn or spring.

“Wonderful location in a wonderful town!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2007

We chose Kurashiki and the surrounding area for our "off-the-beaten path" part of our tour -- and are we glad we did. The town of Kurashiki is wonderful with great museums, a scenic canal area, and wonderful shops (all of which seem to close at 6pm or so and are closed on Monday). From Kurashiki we also day-tripped to Takahashi (has Japan’s highest castle) and Okayama (for another castle and garden). It made for a wonderful three days.

The hotel is nice but starting to show it’s age (especially the carpet which needs replacing). This hotel also doesn’t have true non-smoking rooms or lobby area, but the smell of smoke was MUCH less pervasive than in Yokohama. It is also close to the train station and around the corner from the canal area. There was also an air-conditioned coin laundry down the street – which after more than a week in Japan we very much needed!!

The staff was very helpful – especially when it came time to forward the luggage and we wanted to play leapfrog and send one bag to one hotel and one bag to another.

We would stay here again.

Travel tip -- use the luggage forwarding services -- they really work and they are relatively cheap -- less than $20 for a large suitcase. Remember not all train stations have elevators or escalators!
