We stayed one night at the Toyama Tokyo Inn. Toyama is no great place in itself, but it is a good place to start the Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine route, which I recommend taking – train, bus and cable car across the Alps. It’s good if you are pressed for time to see this area. We found an excellent, small, cheap teppanyaki/okonomyaki just down the street from the hotel (walking away from the train station). It has a small bar and a tatami seating area. No English spoken but pointing was effective.

The hotel is fine for the price, but clearly just a very basic business hotel. Tiny but functional rooms. The breakfast was nothing to write home about at all. Did the job, but I wouldn’t rush back.

The Hotel is just a few steps from the Toyama train station. It's conveniently located with a shopping mall next to it and plenty eateries just outside the hotel. The hotel staff are helpful and friendly. The seafood is abundant in Toyama... must try it's famous firefly squid. Breakfast was served at the cafe on the 15th floor. Once you stepped into the cafe, you are greeted with a fantastic view of Japan Alps thru the windows. It's really awesome!

I stayed at this hotel from 3 - 14 Dec 2007 for business purposes.

Location - the hotel is located within 3 minutes' walk of the JR Toyama station, which also houses a mall (Marier) that sells mainly ladies' fashion, some eateries, and a supermarket. From the Toyama Airport, it is about 20-25 minutes drive to the hotel. There is a larger shopping mall, Daiwa, that is about 25 minutes' walk away. In the vicinity of the hotel, there are various convenience stores e.g. Lawson.

Room - the room I booked was a double room, that had 2 super single beds. Aside from that, there was space for a small coffee table and 2 chairs.

Bed - the bed was generally comfortable and the comforter did a pretty good job in keeping me warm as it was winter. On each bed, there are 2 pillows, one of which is supposedly a Tempur pillow.

TV - this drew a grouse from me as there were no non-japanese channels.

Bathroom - the bathroom is small, with a small bath-tub, but it is well-equipped with toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, shower foam, hand/face soap, hairdryer, hairbrush, towels, face towels, facial cleansing items (as this was a designated Ladies Room), etc.

Laundry Service - the laundry service is reasonably priced and was prompt.

Others - The room provides a hot water flask, bar fridge and free internet connection (wired)! In addition, there is a small coffee shop on the ground floor of the hotel that serves breakfast (and opens from 7am-11pm) e.g. bagels, coffee, etc.

Hotel staff - overall the staff do not really speak English; even the reception staff do not have good command of English. So for non-Jap guests, do bring your laundry to the front desk instead of dialling for the service, which was what I did.
