“Crowne Plaza Hotel Kanazawa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

My husband and I stayed at the Crowne Plaza as part of a mini-vacation we took to celebrate his birthday. I made the booking online and reserved a standard double room.

The room was nice, but very small. However, it had everything that we needed and we didn't plan to be in the room all that much, so it was fine. We were able to request pillows to order.

We took the package with breakfast included and had a fabulous buffet breakfast each day. There was enough Japanese food for my husband to feel happy, and enough western food for me! We dined later in the morning, and there was still ample food for us.

On the second evening we dined in the Teppanyaki Room. It was amazing! The view of Kanazawa was beautiful and the food was so good. I'm not sure if the chef spoke English, but the waitress did which was nice for me. The price wasn't cheap, but the experience (and the taste) definitely was worth it!

The negative points of the hotel were not awful. I had a mild allergic reaction to the shampoo on my first morning and itched the rest of the day. A second shower in the evening (we were out all day) took care of the problem. The other point was with the front desk clerk who checked us in. He asked for my passport which was unnecessary as I am a resident of Japan (and my Japanese address was on the reservation form.) Other than those points, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel in Kanazawa.

The location next to the station was great and was very convenient. If you arrive early enough in the day, there is an English speaker available at the Tourism office in the station.

Room Tip: If budget allows, get a better than Standard room. The Standard is fine, but it is a little cramped...

Very good value for money and a big step up from standard Japanese business hotels. Right next to the station. A very good choice is you're visiting Kanazawa on a rail pass.

“Very plush hotel”

A very plush hotel. Friendly staff. Very nice room. Right near the station but a bit far from the middle of Kanazawa.

my wife and I stayed 2 nights in Nov 2010 and everything was perfect .
loaction absolutely next to the satation , you cannot miss it , undercover shelter all the way to reception .Rooms were excellent in size , decor and view over main road with no outside noise .Staff were fantastic and arranged transport of our luggae to Nagoya whilst
we did the Alpine route . Luggage was awaiting us at our hotel at Nagoya when we arrived Price was one of the lowest during our 17 day trip around Japan
if this hotel does not satisfy you , then I am sorry you have a problem .
we did nou use hotel restaurants as , well , we are in Japan and we dined at a local bar/restaurant that was a fantastic experience . Locals were only to happy to help you with meals and things to do .

“Great location, but let down by air conditioning.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2010

The convenience of the location is exactly as they say it is, right next door to the train station - you don't even have to break cover in the Kanazawa rain to walk to it. Our room on the west side of the 12th floor was pleasant enough, if a little compact. The view over the train lines and low-rise apartments was nothing special. The bathroom was a little dated, but the bed was very comfortable, with a choice of pillows. But it's a shame we couldn't get a decent night's sleep - the air conditioning was set to hot, and the control unit in the room could do nothing to cool it. The windows were sealed, and there was no means for natural ventilation; all we could do at night was to pull back the lined curtains to get some coolness off the window.
The following morning (before strolling to our daily breakfast at the German Bakery at the station!) we complained about the lack of control on the temperature, and the receptionist explained how it was the time of year that the central air condioning temperature was generally turned up. We asked if we could borrow a fan, but these had all been snapped-up by the other Western guests that had already complained about the stifling temperatures! We were offered a larger room on the east side, in the hope that the increased volume and morning aspect would make for a cooler experience.
After returning from a day of sightseeing we were assisted to our new room across the hallway by a young member of staff literally tripping over himself to help us.
Unfortunately the larger room was no cooler; Kanazawa was experiencing something of a heatwave in early December, and with the room now overlooked by the taller hotels surrounding the station we could not leave the curtains open - even if we could, the rising sun blasted too much heat into the room, meaning the curtains had to be drawn at all times.
The Crowne Plaza is a perfectly good hotel and good value, but until it sorts out its ventilation, we cannot recommend it. True, it had a very convenient location near the well-served station, but there are plenty of others in the area to choose from.
