This large hotel is situated a way out from the center of Gifu on the Nagara river. Typical of many large Japanese hotels it seems to specialize in weddings and events, along with some tourist business. The service is excellent, and staff do speak some English. The room prices are reasonable.
You can view traditional nighttime cormorant fishing (ukai) in summer evenings right from the hotel or stroll across the street to the riverside. Gifu castle is dramatically situated on top of a mountain across the river, and visible from the hotel as well. The hotel rooms are decent size, feature free internet access for laptops (or there's a computer in the lobby), and the hotel even has a real onsen thermal bath. A large comprehensive buffet breakfast in one the hotel's cavernous event halls is included, and the hotel gift shop features a variety of souvenirs and local delicacies.
Within walking distance of the hotel on the riverside there's an excellent shabu shabu and steak restaurant featuring matsuzake beef.
The main drawback of the hotel is it's location, which is about 15 minutes by car from the Gifu train station. But otherwise the accomodations are terrific.
