“Great hotel: Best location, prices, service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2011

The stay in the Gulden Tulip Aqaba was a great one. I was traveling with my wife and two daughters, 5 years and 5 months. We stayed there for two nights. We got a small room through our reservation, but when we called asking for a crib for my 5-months the receptionist "apologized" for not giving us a bigger room after seeing my family and offered a free upgrade and was even apologizing for all the trouble "he" caused us to unpack and then repack our stuff to move to the new, much bigger room.

The rooms are very nice and clean. The a/c was not running cold air, probably because it was still "winter" in Aqaba, although temps were in mid 70s F (low 20s C).

The free breakfast runs from 6:30 to 10:30 AM and had lots of choices, including cereals, cheese, breads, pastries, middle eastern foods (hommos, zaatar, ..) There was even a chef there who can make fresh custom-made omelets.

The location of the hotel is great. It is in the middle of an area filled with shops and restaurants. It is within a 15-min walk to one of the most-famous "sitting" beaches, Al-Ghandour, next to the flagpole. This beach has people who offer you a free beach mat when you ask for a small cup of tea or Turkish coffee. Great beaches for swimming are a 15-min drive away.

There is this funny parrot in the lobby that my 5-year old loved to chat with. The hotel also has free wireless internet.

All in all, the hotel itself, its location and its staff were amazing. Definitely will be going back as soon as I get the chance.

“Use for a base in Aqaba”

We stayed 2 nights here. The room was comfortable and clean, with plenty of hot water, good shower and a good flush to the toilet ! Tv and fridge, and air con that worked. The hotel is away from the beach area and you will need to catch a bus to either the public beaches or the "Royal Diving Club" .Swimming pool area clean but dull, and in shade for most of the day. Breakfast Ok but staff struggled to cope with number of people taking food at the same time. Pleasant bar area.

“Good hotel in Aqaba”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2010

We were booked into the Golden Tulip by Aqaba Dive, so we didn't really know what we were in for. The Lonely Planet mentioned that it had tiny bathrooms. Maybe they have done some renovations since then, but we found the bathroom in our twin room to be a good size and perfectly adequate; well-stocked and everything worked well.

Staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was very good with a nice choice of Jordanian and Western foods, and the windows were double glazed so although we were near a mosque we didn't hear the early morning call to prayer.

Just down the road is a 24 hour cafe with superb fresh fruit juice, and there's a CD/DVD shop on the curve of the street whose friendly owner patiently played us various local CDs until we made our choice. Aqaba Dive is also a few minutes' walk away, and the hotel is centrally located for strolling around town. Best meals - sayedieh (grilled fish meal) at Ali Baba's, and fantastic lamb at Al Sharmi.

“Just OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 April 2010

Positives - Free wifi, near food and shops, food ok
Negatives - Thin walls and others may disrupt your sleep, not near beach, noisy AC

I guess it is just ok for me and my family. We paid to enter other 5 stars hotel to enjoy their pool and beach which is fun. Everything about this hotel is just average.
