“Great place for this area and for this price!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

I wanted to share how great our stay was here! Staff was extremely warm and friendly, from front desk to servers to bartender to housekeeping :) It is obvious that this property has been updated and probably will continue to do so with that which is possible -- for an older building, the decor was pleasant!!

The fitness room, hot tub and pool all looked very nice and the fitness equipment was impressive. Absolutely loved that the room had a Keurig coffee maker and that a big variety of additional flavors are also available at the front desk for a nominal fee! (or, bring your own if you are a Keurig addict like I am!)

The restaurant was inviting and it always says something about a restaurant in a hotel when people who aren't hotel guests venture in for a meal! Prices are reasonable and food nicely prepared (as are alcoholic drinks). Can't believe how tasty the fruit was being the time of year and all... Tip: Priority Club members get a discount off of their meals so be sure to join -- you can even join right there!

Only negative I can think of is the mattress cover - but it was comfortable so that's what really matters :) The room heater went on and off very quietly which is a major plus to me as I am a fairly light sleeper.

As others have said, the location is good and a good restaurant that I have mentioned in another hotel review from this area is within walking distance! (Buffalo Roadhouse Grill).

We don't get out this way often, but I'm pretty sure this hotel will be on the top of our list when we do go back!

Dear JustAMom1

I wish you could see the smiles and joy your review has brought us. It is so rewarding as managers and associates to know that we can make a difference in a guest’s experience. As someone who has been doing this for more than ½ my life (and that’s a long time) I can tell you it is always nice to hear and read about a guest who had a good time at our hotel. It never gets old. We are looking into the covers on our mattresses and we hope to find a product that still offers protection to our guests yet not disturb their rest.

I have printed your comments and I will make sure they are shared with all departments and associates.

Thank you for your kind words and review. We hope you find more reasons to visit the area and will be grateful for the chance to be your host once again.

“It's an older Holiday Inn”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I base all of my reviews on what I expect from that chain. I will not review a Motel 6 and base my expectations on a four-star hotel.

This was my first stay at this property. I don’t understand many of the complaints in previous reviews. But I do understand a few.

Like people, hotels get older. It’s how we take care of ourselves that determines how well we age.

Parking: Free parking. Plenty of spots.

Check-in: Fast, friendly and easy!

Getting the type of room I request: No problem.

The Room: Thee room was fine. This is an old hotel. The bathroom showed signs of age, the hallways did as well, but I don’t care about the hallways in a Holiday Inn.

Bed: This is one of the previous complaints I agree with. There is some sort of plastic cover on the mattress. Why? It makes noise everytime you move.

TV: Nice! New 32” LG High-Def flat screen. On Directv with a nice amount of stations

Bathroom: Small & old! Shower/tub combo. Adjustable shower head (plenty of hot water).

Room Cleanliness: Clean

Temperature control: Worked fine & quiet!

Outside sound: None!

As usual, the occasional door closing out in the hallway. (If you are reading this review you have stayed in a hotel before. Help cut down on slamming doors by slowly closing your door and not letting it slam shut)

Lighting: Acceptable. I personally prefer a very bright room. This was not, but it was fine.

Work Space: Desk with office chair.

Internet: FREE - High Speed wireless. Very easy to access and excellent speed.

Restaurants: Yes, One.

Gym: Yes! Nice size and more equipment than most hotels

Pool: Yes, Indoor and Large!

Elevators: None. Only two floors in the hotel.

Very convenient location, literally just off the highway. Easy to get too. Plenty of shops and restaurants up and down the road from the hotel.

Room Tip: It's not the room to request it's finding a bed without the plastic mattress cover.

“Needs updating and cleaning”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Pros:
-Close to the highway
-Quiet location

Cons:
-Hallway carpets are very old and outdated looking, blue red and yellow in color. The hotel exterior appeared to be updated, so why not the carpeting?
-Hallway had some sort of loose panels under the carpet that rocked when a suitcase was rolled over top or someone walked over them
-I found a cockroach perched above the light fixture in the bathroom
-Bed had some sort of crinkly plastic on it under the bed sheet, I guess to protect from bed bugs
-Poor selection of fast food eateries around the area
-Tiles/grout was stained in the bathroom

Dear Cdogg36:

Thank you for your critique of our hotel, however, we apologize for your dissatisfaction. We have already placed the order for the corridor carpet and it is at the manufacturer. We expect installation with the next month. The panels you referred to are to cover water pipes that run underground. Unfortunately there are necessary to access the water pipes for repairs and maintenance. I apologize if you felt the room was less than clean or if the mattress cover was uncomfortable. Should you visit our hotel in the future, please let us know what situations like this happen so we can take corrective measures to fix any problem encountered. We want all of our guests to feel relaxed, comfortable and satisfied with the service and accommodations. Once again, thank you for taking the time to let us know about your visit.

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

I stayed here for two nights with my daughter who was having an interview at Buffalo Medical College. At first glance, the exterior looked very nice. A clean parking lot, ample parking spaces, well-maintained lobby and friendly, helpful front-desk staff. The lobby was decorated nicely for the holidays. Check-in was smooth and easy. Our room was a very long walk away, down a long and dimly-lit hallway in the back of the hotel which seemed strange since we didn't see many people or cars around. As we all know, first impressions are the most important. Our room was also dimly lit. The first light in the entry of the room was a dim flourescent ceiling fixture. The room had a slight smell of mildew covered up by baby powder scented carpet freshener. The rugs were obviously old, dirty and dingy which gave us the feeling of NOT wanting to walk on the floor barefoot. The room furniture was old and cheap. The thermostat blew musty, warm and humid air. The internet in the room worked for a couple of minutes and then you had to continuously re-connect which eventually led to frustration ultimately to shutting down. Didn't see any hotel staff in the hallways, except for the housekeeping cart in the mornings. Being that the halls were long and dimly lit, this led to a slight creepy feeling of possible unsafeness at night (although we had no problems). On the positive side, the beds were comfortable and seemed clean. The very, very small bathroom was also clean, but in great need of updating. Upon arrival we were invited to a free manager's cocktail party in the lobby from 5-6PM. They were serving free wine and appetizers. The wine was fine, the pizza was sitting in a heated bowl which was scooped out with a spoon and tasted frozen. We didn't visit the indoor pool, but at a glance it looked nice. If you have another choice of where to stay in this area, I'd say go for choice #2.

Dear Laura:

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel, however, I wish your experience had been a positive one from every aspect. Although it appears we did some things well, we missed opportunities in several areas and I apologize if you felt disappointed or uncomfortable. If we fail our guests in any area of the experience we are not doing our jobs properly. Laura, it is from comments like this that we can change and grow and I thank you again for letting us know how we can improve. Please accept our sincere apologies for not meeting your expectations. It is our hope that you continue to choose Holiday Inn for your overnight accommodations.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights - it was just an "OK". Clean but outdated - the best feature is the location.

Dear sono1helen:

Thank you for taking the time to comment about your recent stay, however, we wish your experience had left you feeling more excited. We are glad to know you found out hotel clean and pleased with our location. As an older property, we work hard to make up for our age with a more personal touch and friendly, efficient service. We hope you have the opportunity to visit our area again and once more choose the Holiday Inn Amherst as your host in Amherst, NY.

Have a great 2012.
