“Holiday Inn - Only a Sham !!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

I visited this hotel between 12-17 Sept'11 and this being my first visit to the country, I was lookin forward to my stay in this hotel. Apparently, realised that its a SHAM !! The name - Holiday Inn was only namesake; the staff was rude & the service was terrible. Food was poor in quality, mostly room service arrived quite late and the worst part, it came COLD.
When we complained about it, we were told, we apologise but we are actually over booked and hence the issues !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHich hotel ever mentions that because they are over booked, they cant afford to serve u well??? Never again to this hotel.
But if you ever visit Mutare, you must visit the Nyanga

Room Tip: View from the Road side rooms was awesome.

“Expensive for what you get!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

Probably the best hotel in Mutare but at 149 USD overpriced. The hotel surely must have seen better days. The air-condition in the rooms is permamently out of order, probably since a long time an electric fan must do the job. The tissue box was empty, they better remove it because the staff does not have tissues for refill. The breakfast was sufficient, they even had cereals. Another positive item: Free and fast internet.

“Warm hospitality, but that is all.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

Staff are very nice and friendly, but that is all. The room I was in was very noisy and blankets needed washing. Except for breakfast, food was mediocre; menu had very limited choice.

“Lovely hotel, comfortable and warm hospitality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2011

I ran a workshop for a week at the Holiday inn Mutare in March, 2011. It was lovely. The bed was the most comfortable I have experienced in Africa thus far. The hotel staff was very accommodating and extremely friendly. They picked up on things that were said in passing and made corrections or adjustments prior to being asked. The food was ample and delicious - they offered lots of vegetables in addition to traditional meat and fish dishes. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The only down side was the spotty wifi - but I was told they were working on getting a new system.

“Convenient but level of service did not match very high prices”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2011

1. Staff were welcoming and friendly.
2. I asked for a quiet room, instead was given one with a connecting door to a noisy couple in a suite next door.
3. Staff were not properly informed about the internet, which to their surprise I managed to get to work, reasonable connection.
4. Food was mediocre and very limited choice. More a la carte choices needed and more options for vegetarians.
5. Nice pool although very small.
6. Constant problems with the electronic door lock swipe cards.
7. Batteries needed replacing in TV remote.
8. Margarine for breakfast - surely at this price we could have butter??

If this hotel were $70 per night I would consider it reasonable value. However the quality of service and attention to detail just did not match the expensive $140 price tag for international guests ($100 for Zimbabweans, I think).
