“Great Place to Stay in Livingstone”

I stayed here at the end of December 2011. I'm a single / female traveler and I felt Chanters was really safe. Richard is extremely responsive and made booking a room easy via emails, he helped with questions I had before my trip, and helped arrange my transfer from Zimbabwe.

My room was spacious, clean, had a refrigerator, A/C, TV, Bathtub and shower. My room was very clean, and comfortable.

The staff was a huge plus and really makes this place the best place to stay. From helping to organize activities, to offering great food/drinks they were there to help and answer any questions. The girls are incredibly helpful and friendly, and make your stay perfect!

Thank you to Richard and team for everything. It is nice after a long day to come "home" at night to a safe place that offers great food, and friendly faces. Superior Value!

“Great value, attentive service”

We stay here for 1 night at the end of a Bostwana safari back in August 2011. As our taxi drove onto the grounds, Richard Chanter and two of his staff came out to greet us. We arrived early (around 10:30) but we were able to check in immediately. Our room turned out to be a suite: bedroom with two double beds, bathroom with tub, and a separate sitting/TV room, with a door leading directly to the back garden. There's a small swimming pool in the garden.

The staff can help to arrange any of the many tourist activities available, but with our limited time, we just wanted to see Victoria Falls. They called a taxi to take us to the Falls. After a visit of a few hours, we took a taxi back to downtown Livingstone, had lunch, visited the Livingstone Museum, Mukuni Park Market, and walked back to the lodge. We enjoyed both dinner and breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Breakfast is included in the room rate. They serve local Zambian cuisine for dinner, at very good prices. I love eating local when I travel.

The next afternoon we had a flight back to South Africa and then to the U.S. Mr. Chanter drove us himself to the airport. All in all, we could not have asked for more.

Room Tip: Room 1 is a suite, 2 queen beds and a sitting room. However, it is right next to the reception desk...

Thanks for your kind review - the comment about the suite is well made and we are concentrating on trying to make less 'background noise' for the occupants. Thanks again for taking the time to review the lodge.

“Excellent Value and Friendly Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights in January 2012. It was a nice and cozy place with friendly staff. The rooms were clean and nice with air con! It was a nice quiet place which was great to relax after a long day of activities. Knowledgeable staff that helped us organise activities. Thank you for a great stay!

“Stay here! Save your money for the expensive activities in Livingstone”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

Booked Chanters Lodge after reading the excellent reviews here. First, I would like to thank Richard and her girls, esp. Anastacia (not sure if i spelled correctly) for the friendly service and help with making reservations for our trip. My wife and I enjoyed our time at the lodge.

Earlier reviews are all accurate.

Reliable and Value for money. I made reservation via email to Richard and response was prompt. We got the room we reserved. Richard will pick u up and drop u off at the airport, which is very helpful given the lack of public transport and taxis do not have meters. People who book this lodge need to understand that they are in Zambia and the room rates at Chanters are quite low, so do not expect Royal Livingstone type of accommodation. But overall, I can say the rooms are generally clean and beds are comfortable.
Service - Richard can help with reservations for your activities, such as Sunset River Safari, Livingstone island tours, helicopters, etc. Anastacia and the other girls are also helpful and can give you good advice.
Restaurant at Lodge - The food is delicious and it is really convenient if you are hanging out at the lodge or after you come back from the sunset safari when its already dark - not having to worry abt going out in the dark to get dinner is a big plus. This is a Restaurant, so prices start from abt US$10 for a main course.
Wifi - Free wifi at lodge, very useful.

Some of the activities at Livingstone are rather expensive, e.g. Helicopter ride, so I would recommend Chanters Lodge for people who do not need to live in luxury, and are visiting livingstone for the marvelous falls and Livingstone Island/Devils Pool.

We spent 3 nights at Richard Chanters place with 6 Adults and 3 Kids. All Rooms exactly what was required, if a normal double, a Suite with additional Front Room or a Family with a Bunkbed. All great! Nice and big, locally manufactured furniture, AC, Fridge and TV.
Richard organized as well a great trip to Botswana / Chobe National Park which went very smooth.
Excellent Restaurant and very unlike all others in Zambia: All Meals on the Menue are available!!!
Pricewise very affordable, the number one choice for Livingstone!!!!
