“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We stayed at Chundukwa for 2 nights in January and had a great time. Pascal was always around to ask if you needed anything or if he could help in any way and the owner was also always visable and asking if he could sort out any activities or help with anything else.

The rooms were nice with fantastic views over the river and a pod of hippos, everything was well maintained and we had a fan to help with the Summer heat.

We went on the included sunset boat trip on the river and tried a bit of fishing and also to the falls with their guide who was friendly and helpfull. The only slightly disapointing thing with Chundukwa was the catering, it was not bad by any means! and certainly wasn't anything to complain about it just wasn't particularly 'special' and as this was the most expensive lodge we stayed in on our trip we were hoping for a little more.

Location is a little out of town but that is what we were after, overall we had a great time listening to the frogs and swimming in the pool whilst watching the hippos!

Room Tip: Get one of the two newer rooms with the on suite as some of the other rooms have a seperate bathroom...

“Wonderful Zambezi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

When we first arrived we were told by the main host that this was not a 5 star lodge. She's right and if that is what you're looking for go to the Royal Livingstone (a tad too colonial for our tastes but without a doubt luxurious). If however you are looking for a wonderful time, clean and cozy rooms, fabulous food and staff that will go out of their way for you. This is the place. My only recommendation is if possible and feasible get a generator. One morning there was no electricity and there was no back up. That said it was a great stay, but prospective guests must be honest with themselves about the kind of vacation they want. This was the perfect mix of relaxation, adventure and pampering for our group.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Chundukwa River Lodge.
We are delighted that you and your group enjoyed the experience and appreciate your feedback.

We are currently looking at an alternative power supply to cover us during the rare occasions that the main power goes down. This will most likely be a solar system so as to avoid the noise of a generator, especially at night when the bush sounds are at their best!

“No complaints, but NOT value for money”

No complaints, but just know that you are getting a nice quiet basic getaway. We got service staff for our room, cooking and serving our meals, which was nice. But the accommodation is pretty basic, no internet, they only have enough towels 1 per guest, the transport service is a crappy beat up van. We were treated well and enjoyed our stay - BUT I feel that it's over-priced for what you get. We were told "We don't try to be, nor do we want to be, a 5-star resort" - which is fine, but then they need to lower their prices. I shouldn't be paying NY rates in Zambia. Period.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Chundukwa River Lodge.
We are constantly striving to meet and exceed our guests' expectations in order to ensure a truly memorable stay in Zambia.
We feel that our rates offer excellent value-for-money considering that we offer a fully-inclusive package and our location on the Zambezi is second to none.
We realise that more and more travellers require high-speed internet connection even whilst on holiday so as to keep to date with work and family and we will have a wi-fi connection available to all our guests by March this year.
Due to our commitment to protecting our environment and minimising our use of River water we supply guests with 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel on arrival. Extra towels are available on request and these can be changed daily if required.
Regarding our vehicles, our priority is that the vehicle is comfortable with air-conditioning and that the guide is highly informative and willing to go the extra mile to showcase the best that this beautiful region has to offer.

“Quiet getaway with great host and staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We stayed at Chundukwa about 5 weeks ago. The only guests the second night, we were spoilt with our own trip to the local island (complete with drinks of choice on the boat), lovely homestyle cooking enjoying some local dishes), and accommodation where you wake up and see the water without having to open a curtain. Our room was absolutely like the photo!

The host is very knowledgeable and will go our of her way to ensure you fit in all you should to make your stay special. e.g. Livingstone Island tour - very worthwhile!!

Can highly recommend.

“A place to relax with very pleasent staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Stayed for 3 nights after a very active Safari in South Africa. What a good find Our Lodge was at the very end so nobody was wandering past at night except the elephants and Hipos in the river. All the staff were very helpfull. The beds very comfortable Went on a visit to the village were the staff came from and the new village school this was a very good visit. You see life as it is on this visit it is a most do visit Suggest you take a football or pens etc. for the school. Ideal place to see the falls

Room Tip: Get a lodge that has a bathroom in the lodge. They are the newer ones
