“new years at protea”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

The hotel is beautiful...well maintained surroundings..my first problem was my booking had not been confirmed i booked through central reservation in lusaka for an initial two but extended to three nights 29th december to 1st jan 2012 but this was not relayed by the lusaka staffer..
the showers are small...any extra kilos to me and i would practically not go through..that was veryy uncomfortable..for a very large bathroom to have a small shower in the corner...
lastly the flies and bees in the dinning area!! lord help us..
otherwise the protea experience is always a good one..hopefully you take not of the few hitches here and there..
its a classy and affordable place peaceful and very neat :-)

On a recent trip Zimbabwe via Livingstone we stopped and stayed in the Livingstone Protea Hotel. The service was great and rooms great.

“A godsend after Livingstone Airport and Visa applications”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

We arrived at Livingstone airport after suffering a four hour transit at the worst and most unsafe airport of Johannesburg where stealing from baggage is rife to be meet by our guide to transport to the Protea Hotel which is conveniently situated a short distance from Victoria Falls.
The Hotel was well presented and the staff all very friendly and only to willing to assist.
Our group stayed for three nights in a suitable room for the region and we felt very safe and enjoyed our meals at the hotel restaurant. The hotel had a swimming pool and outdoor bar with plenty of seating
In all found ourselves well catered for during our occupancy.

“Great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

I still don't know why is the hotel a 3 stars? It's breautiful and great service. We were given a better price makes it an even better experience.

The hotel location isn't the best but close to a few shops and restaurants. We took taxis to town and the falls. The food in the hotel was good with hotel prices.

Rooms were great, spacious and clean. The only problem I have was Mosquitos on the second night because we have missed the evening turn down when they spray.

Service was ok. Kitchen and restaurant staffs are better than front desk.

Overall it's a good one.

“Nice stay for business, but not sure I'd vacation here”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

Sufficient for a functional stay, sleep, shower and breakfast....not sure I would have enjoyed this for my home base as the entire Victoria Falls experience. At breakfast, there were people in business suits, so it must be a business hotel.

The room was OK, I'd say the room felt "colder" in person than the photos make it look on their website. The bathroom was subpar for the price we paid. Lots of mosquitoes in the common areas like the halls, probably due to the fountains between the lobby and the rooms. Beautiful common areas and decor. Solid service. Breakfast was hearty.

Very near the border, but the hotel grounds are within a walled, self-contained compound (like most resorts that we passed). We never saw the the main city of Livingstone or any central city location during our stay. There was a grocery store right next to the property that would be walkable, if needed.

We had to stay on the Zam side so that we could take the Royal Livingstone Express Dinner Train, so this was the best acoomodation at a reasonalble ($200 US) price we could find.

After, we went to the Zim side and enjoyed the Zim side SOOO much more!
