“Not the best hotel for your money”

The room was huge and clean for the most part but that's kinda where it stopped. In the bathroom the tub didn't have a shower curtain! The breakfast was horrible compared to other Vietnamese Hotels. I came at 8 and everything had been picked over and definitely by 8:30 breakfast was OVER. The flies were everywhere. Fortunately they were willing to make me an omelet. They have no late check out policy. The beach is across the street but doesn't seem so accessible. All in all it is not the most western friendly place to stay at all...

“Unimpressive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 April 2010

I stayed at a few hotels over a three week period across Vietnam, some much cheaper than this, and they were still better.

Maybe it was the time of year, but the hotel was pretty much empty when we stayed. It lloked promising from the outside, individual little 'villas' with rooms in each looked like we were gearing up for something fancy. It had a nice pool in the courtyard and was right across from My Khe beach. The grounds were a little unkempt though, and took away from the look of the hotel which could've been nice if it was given more TLC.

I am shocked by the pictures attached of the rooms, because mine looked nothing as nice as these. In fact, when I walked in, the room was dark and dank and had a patch of black mold creeping up one wall, which horrified me. The bathroom was actually a litle grimy, I only showered once and briefly......my hot water lasted maybe a minute. I sat down on the bed to relax and read the hotel guest services brochure and a cockroach ran across my hand. Minutes later I saw another crawling up the wall. I went to the front desk and explained politely what had happened and asked to be moved, which seemed to confuse them. They did move me though. I have to add that the front desk people were slow and had no personality whatsoever. They also tried to tell me I had to pay in Dong or US dollars, I had to INSIST they take my credit card.

There was a restaurant there with decent food that wasn't too expensive.

There didn't seem to be much of anything in the area except the beach, so we had to take a 20 minute cab ride to Hoi An (which, by the way, is awesome). Next time I'll just stay in Hoi An.

“Very basic hotel”

I was in Vietnam in November 2007 with a 22-person group. We stayed in Da Nang after a 2 week stint in Central Vietnam doing volunteer work.

If you read my review on the LeLe Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, then this hotel is a little, tiny step above that. I shared a room with 2 twin beds on the second floor in the building closest to the front. The room was a decent size, and the bathroom was larger than our room in the LeLe. Both room and bathroom were way cleaner that the LeLe. The air-con worked well, I think. By that point in the trip, I was very sick. We stayed 2 nights; I was pretty much bed-ridden during the day. So the TV was a welcome distraction. Watched Star Wars in English with Thai subtitles!

Had one dinner and 2 breakfasts in the restaurant. Food was relatively decent. Actually the breakfast was better than I expected, with a better selection than the LeLe. There is an outdoor pool and a tennis court, but I didn't use either.

The hotel is right beside the beach. Cross the street carefully and you're right there. We were there during typhoon season, so no one was on the beaches, but it was interesting to watch the waves crashing on the shore.

Check in and check out went as smoothly as anything can go in Vietnam. Pulled the usual "the credit card machine is broken so you have to pay in Dong" trick. I also think they rifled through my passport; I normally keep my yellow fever vaccine certificate attached to my passport with an elastic band. The band was missing when my passport was returned to me.

I think if I hadn't been so sick at the time, I would feel a little more charitable. However, the memory is so bad that I can't ever think about returning to the Tourane.

“WISHED WE'D STAYED IN HOI AN INSTEAD”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2008

We stayed in the Tourane Hotel for two nights, which was more than enough! This formed part of a private tour of Vietnam and we weren't unfortunately given an option on where to stay in the city.
The hotel was very basic to say the least but as it was only for two nights it didn't really matter too much. If it was to be our base for several days we would have moved.
We ate dinner in the restaurant one evening and it was pretty inedible. We had intended to find a restaurant mentioned in the Lonely Planet guide along the River Han, but couldn't find it, and as it was getting late we had no alternative,
The bar looked uninviting so we made our way to the back of the hotel and found a couple of traveller cafes which were much better. We repeated this the following night.
After checking out the following morning we were putting our cases into the boot of the guide's car when the reception staff ran across the car park and accused us of stealing the large bath towels. We tried to explain that we had never actually had any bath towels in the room, only hand towels, but they didn't believe us. After much arguing, they insisted we open our suitcases so they could check. The whole idea of stealing the towels was so hilarious we found ourselves roaring with laughter much to the annoyance of the hotel staff. Perhaps we should have been insulted, but even now it makes me smile.
Later on in Hanoi we bumped into a work colleague and his wife who coincidentally was also travelling around Vietnam and were comparing notes on the trip. They had stayed in Hoi An instead of Danang and had a wonderful time. We had also spent a day in Hoi An, and would advise anyone to stay there rather than Danang, which was overall very disappointing.

“Basic rooms need refurbishing”

We looked at the rooms at the Tourane Hotel and decided to go to Sandy Beach Resort. The standard was too basic for us.
