“What a dump - avoid at all costs”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2007

We too were put into the Bamboo Green when our flight to Hue was diverted. The room was damp and smelled awful. This dampness had the effect of reacting with the starch on the bedsheets which made them damp and sticky. The bath plug was attached to the bath by a piece of string and I cannot describe what I found hanging off the plug when I removed it from the bath and the tablecloth at breakfast was absolutely filthy .

On checking out we were asked to pay $2 for a short telephone call to the hotel we should have been staying in at Hue and $2 for two small bottles of water from the 'mini bar' that would normally cost a quarter of that price. They even tried to get us to pay for two cans of beer that we never had and weren't even available from the fridge.

As for the claim that all rooms had a harbour or city view, ours looked out, through four layers of metal bars, to a rusty corrugated iron roof.

This hotel is listed in Lonely Planet - usually a good source of decent accommodation but they've got this one badly wrong.

“Please do not stay at Bamboo Green”

We had the unfortunate experience of being put up at Bamboo Green Hotel in Danang when our flight to Hue had to be diverted because of high winds. (The flight was frightful as the plane tried to land three times but each time as we neared the runway, it lifted off again!)
Bamboo Green was empty - as probably everyone knows its reputation, so it could accommodate an entire plane load of people.
The room was fairly big, but smelt musty and dusty, so did the pillows! There was no hot water so the lobby captain was kind enough to open the dining restaurant and my mom saw two big fat rats run away! That was the end of any thoughts of getting water. On the way back to our room, we saw a dead cockroach along the corridor, right opposite our door.
The hotel directory said every room has a view of the city or the bay - well, ours faced another room's window.
We were in the hotel for 7 hours. And that's definitely the worst hotel we've put up in. (Cruel irony: we had booked Le Residence in Hue - one of the finest hotels in the city!!)

“Depressing”

This is the Bamboo Green Harbourside which is the one in the previous review.

Depressing - very old and tired hotel. All we could face at breakfast was the sliced white bread. Great air conditioning though.

“Not a great one”

Stay at Bamboo Green Harbour for my last night in Vietnam - luckily ! The room was small and the hotel was showing its age and quite run down. The reception could be more helpful as they cannot speak much English. The buffet breakfast was also lousy with limited food and no service personnel in sight. Should have deserve better for the price. A let down for a local 3 star hotel and there is also a sleazy massage parlour just at ground floor. It do have a lovely view of the River if you stay high enough and the location is convenient with the excellent Kim Do restauarant just down the street
