The hotel itself is ok, though a little bit over priced. The furniture is old and used, a shower courtain was never to be seen and behind the hotel is a ministerium located, that started every morning at 5.30 with the propaganda radio programm. With the huge loudspeakers, that are mounted on the roof of the ministerium, the radio programm was directly transmitted into our rooms. Nevertheless, the rooms are quite clean, the hotel has a nice courtyard with a pool and a reasonable breakfast buffet.
BUT: keep away from the travel agency located in the hotel. They sold us 300% overpriced bus tickets for a sleeping but from Hanoi to Sapa, claimed to have an office in Hanoi and kept 1/3 of the money as commission for their "help" as we found out later. We ended up in an old, filthy overbooked bus, stopping at a restaurant with a not acceptable toilet for woman (in fact, there was no toilet, they were peeing on to the tiled floor) with unfriendly staff, paying 30 USD per person per way. When we found out the real ticket prices (10 USD) and complained, there was nothing left from the business realtionship between the Thanh Binh III hotel and the so called office in Hanoi. They were suddenly "just friends" and could of course not take any responsibility of the mistake of the other party.
We also informed the hotel about the staff ripping off their customers, but neighter got an excuse nor at least a response.
So our advice: if you have an alternative, stay somewhere else.
