“Ok but poorly managed and needs updating”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

The hotel is in a great position. Some of the rooms come with doors that don't close and a mouldy smell. The balcony was nice. The restaurant is adequate for breakfast but simply terrible for other meals - if you like your pizza to be rock hard and want to try one of the worst meals in Vietnam then this the restaurant for you. Staff were upset we didn't visit there brothers shoe shop. Porters let us down and held out for a tip. And the manager and other staff have inadequate english to deal with all but the most basic issues.

I would recommend other hotels - they even tried to overcharge us ondeparture for items that we had not bought.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else. We had Karaoke noise until 2.00am

“Not what we expected”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

THE HOTEL ALTHOUGH IN A BEAUTIFUL SITUATION ON THE RIVER AT HOI AN DID NOT LIVE UP TO EXPECTATIONS. The room a deluxe superior did not live up to the web-site blurb. There was no wireless in the rooms, the beds were very uncomfortable and one bed was a child's bed when requesting three single beds, there were rats in the computer room and the balcony turned out to be a ledge surrounding the older building with a rail. The doors in our room did not shut properly so the door to the outside ledge remained open. We requested an extra towel for the third adult plus toilet paper and that was brought unwillingly. Had i not paid in full ahead I would have moved hotels as I have stayed in Hoi An twice before in less expensive hotels where we had a much nicer experience. As this was over New Year the compulsory dinner and entertainment was also very poor value when we could hav e had a sumptuous meal outside for the same price.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel

“Faded .....but still Ok POSITION fabulous”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

This is the second time we have stayed here ....the first time we booked a bungalow and loved it, this time we got an executive deluxe and it wasn't as enjoyable. We arrived at about 11 pm and were put in room 111 we unpacked and hopped into bed and about 15 minutes later a very loud noise started ....we waited about 30 minutes and when the noise continued I went to the night manager and asked to be moved......that was no problem
the breakfast is delicious and there is plenty of choice.
Position is great just over the bridge from the market. Hoi An is a shoppers paradise so it is nice to be not too far removed.the whole place sort of seems if it needs a bit of a spruce up ..it was obviously once a very flash resort but it is just a bit faded now.i would definitely recommend to ask not to be put in rooms 111 or 215 because the plant room or whatever it is is seriously noisy!!!! The room me were moved to was a lot better BUT once again with the last time we were here the mattresses are very HARD!!! I know it easy to lose perspective when you are paying $40 a night for accomodation including breakfast but sometimes these little things mean a lot......
So I'm not saying don't stay here just be aware.........l.

“Still close to the centre of town and far enough away!”

Stayed in a Japanese suite, lovely size. Restaurant provided breakfast. Overpriced dinner and not too wonderful after tasting the local fair.

“Hoi An - always a highlight”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

We have stayed at the Pho Hoi Resort on 2 occasions now, once in 2010 and again in 2011.

The location is really what makes this place, it is a small resort with a range of accomodation styles available. On both occasions, we have had bungalows, which afford a measure of privacy and are less noisy.

Travel in Vietnam is always a bit of a lottery, thats one of the attractions and the Pho Hoi resort is no exception. Most of the staff are helpful and goi out of their way to make your stay pleasant, the exception seems to be upon checkout - on both occasions this has become adversarial over queried costs (wrong on both counts).

It is beautiful to wake up alonside the river with the fishermen and people coming into the daily markets - one of the best times of the day.

On the downside, dont eat in the resort. Breakfast is ok, but as for other meals?...one of the great things about Hoi An is its variety of eating options so there is no real need to settle for overpriced (by Viet standards) and poorly prepared food.

Always plenty of hot water, however water quality varies from ordinary to terrible.

Beds are typically hard, and this can be an issue.

If staying in the "old" part of the resort ( the double story rooms), make sure that you check the room out before accepting it. The standard of maintenance varies greatly by all reports. Also ensure on checkin that you do indeed get the standard of room that you have booked or paid for.....these guys love the "up sell"...and half the time chances are you have already paid for it!

Room Tip: Bungalows are worth the extra spend if you enjoy peace and quiet. If staying in the double storied s...
