This was another return visit for us and we were not disappointed at all.
The Suite room has amazing Khmer furnishings, big four poster bed, elaborate dressing table, desk and chairs. Be careful hopping into bed as the mattress is hard but it was softer this time around.
The rooms are a dark and cool retreat from the heat. A large bathroom with shower over the bath. Voices and the sound of the heavy furniture moving around can heard from other rooms but this certainly did not effect our sleep at all and during the day we were out and about or jumping in for a quick swim. Bonus was the kettle and tea and coffee in the room and Room Service, though it was unavailable while we were there.
Van Loi is now run by a hotel chain and the first thing we noticed was the staff's helpfulness on check-in. Taxi bookings, money exchange and inquiries were handled professionally and we were not pressured into tours or extra purchases.
The roof top restaurant has excellent views of the surrounding countryside and was a great spot to relax. Breakfast had all that we required... eggs cooked on the spot however you would like, Pho, cereal, fruit, pastries, all the usual dishes.
Location is perfect, easy walk over the bridge into the markets, tailors and restaurants.... all paved now.... visit the very helpful lady at Ty across the road for cheap laundry, bike hire, cold beers and nibbles...
