It was the most expensive hotel we had in Vietnam. It was worth every penny. Located in the old city, we stayed in one of the suite. Charming, exquisite service, and beautiful rooms. If you book through their website, make sure you check the promotion section. We discovered because we were staying three nights we where eligible to use other Vinh Hung hotels in Hoi An and other free activities. Unfortunately, if you do not read it the staff will not tell you.

Stayed 4 nights and loved every minute, room upstairs at front. Get a wake-up call from the tune on the dust-cart at 7. If you enjoy watching the world go about its business then spend an hour on the balcony watching the street below.
Only 6 rooms, internet booking best value.
Room immaculate, staff friendly & helpful, breakfast basic but adequate.
if you want a pool / riverside then the Vinh Hung resort provides this, 10 minute walk away.
Location is in pedestrian area, but motorbikes use street except between 6- 10pm.
PC in room with internet.

We stayed for 2 nights in one of the rooms that Michael Caine is supposed to have used as dressing rooms while filming The Quiet American.

The room was wonderful, if a little dark and had a balcony which overlooked the street. Every morning at 6am we were woken by the incesant traffic which continued until the road was closed at 8am.

This was the only complaint so my advice would be to take a room at the back and ask to have a look at the Michael Caine room!

WOW!!!!!!
A definite highlight of our trip to Vietnam was Hoi An and a definite highlight of Hoi An was Vinh Hung 1.

If you want character and a feel of old time Vietnam it doesn't get any better than this. The place just oozes character. Right in the heart of the old town, it was great to sit on the balcony and watch the locals go by. You really feel a part of it here.

We stayed for 7 nights and we got to know all the locals on "our corner", from the kids to restaurant staff to shop keepers.

The staff were excellent. The breakfast spread was amongst the best we had in Vietnam. The restaurant was excellent and the staff a willing to sit down with you and talk about their lives and family - they even kept our favourite table free for our afternoon drinks each day.

Great to sit and watch to tourist walk by, stop, oogle at the place....and your just thinking to yourself.......yeah where staying HERE...what's your hotel like?

Look it is pricey, but considering all the other savings/bargains that you get in Vietnam... you can afford to splurge a little and experience a LOT at this place (considering what you would pay for a similar location in Europe etc - it is a bargain)... guarantee it will be a highlight.

Our family recently planned to stay at the Vinh Hung resort with friends but unfortunately there were no vacancies, even though we were booking a couple of weeks in advance. We didn't want to stay several kilometres out of town at the beach , so opted for the old Vinh Hung 1 Hotel in the old town. The best rooms were booked out, so we had the cheaper rooms at the back.

We were so glad we were stayed here, and in the old town itself - this hotel must have one of the best locations. Yes, it was on the dark side, due to the old Chinese furniture and architectural style, but this was a novelty for us! We felt we experienced more of the atmosphere of the old town. The Vinh Hung restaurant across the road (where the included breakfast was served) was good. Staff were friendly.

The only problem was some cockroaches (even though the rooms and bathrooms were very clean), however friends at another more upmarket hotel found a couple of cockroaches also. They didn't bother my husband and me, but our children tucked themselves up in the mosquito nets!

The hotel was about to be closed for renovations, so perhaps this minor annoyance will disappear.

  • Liked — Old Chinese style/furnishings and location
  • Disliked — cockroaches
