“Ritz Carlton Rates for Motel 6 Service & Accommodations”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2009

The rooms were outdated and extremely expensive. (Keep in mind there aren't even TVs in the rooms.) Unbelievable!

We were there as part of a larger wedding party and were actually charged higher (!) rates than normal. Nearly every wedding guest I spoke to felt ripped off. On top of the sub-par accommodations, the staff was surly and rude. Two thumbs down!

“Not worth it - needs updating”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2009

On the positive side, the outdoor flowers & plants we saw were pretty and the gardeners should be commended!
On the negative side, we stayed in the one of the rooms in the cottages on site (not main bldg.) It was sorely outdated...contained a very faded, old 80s chintz couch, a weird print of tropical Bali, no style at all, very rustic, and the whole building had a very strong moldy odor. Our shower was loaded with cobwebs...seemed unused in months. Blowdryer in bathroom had "Troutbeck" scribbled on it with a black sharpie. Rustic, shabby furniture. Closet had an odd odor. There was one communal dorm-style fridge in the hall w/ one coffee machine in the cottage...nothing is provided in the room. Our experience with staff was minimal: Took about 20 minutes to find someone to check in...though we did arrive at night. Hostess asked to jump into our car (after hostess had a cigarette break) to show us how to get to the room. Continental breakfast was in the main bldg. (dark & old, w/ dingy chintz curtains). Breakfast contained a fruit basket with 2 pieces of moldy fruit (can't make this stuff up! I was begining to think I was on candid camera.) We had to request milk & coffee since there wasn't any left, though we were there during the stated breakfast hours...it did arrive quickly once we asked for it. Wanted to swim, but the pool was not open (even though it was June + 80 degrees) because they did not meet new state code, but mngmt. said it would be open in a few weeks....(which did not help us). We decided to walk the grounds but there was no map of the inn's trails...because there are no trails. Next day, we decided to read a book on the grounds...but nowhere to sit. Found 2 nice grounds workers who fished out 2 dirty lounge chairs from a defunct indoor pool area. We scrubbed them ourselves to read outside. Tried to make the best of it. Our room had a nice view of a grassy field from one window and an old pick-up truck from the other. At over $300/night I considered this place to be a real downer. Definitely a 2 star or less...I would've considered it to be worthwhile only at around $59/night.

“Tranquility meets rustic beauty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2007

My husband and I stayed at Troutbeck Country Inn October 27 for one night and it was so wonderful. The staff is so pleasant and very accomadating to your needs or to just have a conversation they are great, always us telling fun stories. Our room was #5, over the ballroom, room was enormous, great king canopy bed and nice jacuzzi bathtub. The bed was a little hard for my taste but some people like that. There are no TV's in the rooms but there is one downstairs in a cozy living room. There are many rooms in this inn to explore and the grounds are fun to walk around, they have rivers and streams with bridges and a gazebo and a beautiful english garden in the back. The indoor pool is not up and running and the outdoor pool is closed -too cold out. The basement of the inn has a work-out gym and a pool table but it does have a very musty smell to it. The restaurant is so quaint. There are wineries and small antique towns near by, golf courses and a racetrack where you learn to drive with a pro. Great place to go for a romantic weekend or a large function, they have a ballroom that fits over 200 people seated.

  • Liked — was like being in a 1920's romatic era
  • Disliked — the inn is expensive, no TV in the room, indoor pool was not working

“Disappointed-not worth the money.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2007

While the grounds are beautiful and the staff friendly and helpful, the inn is tired and in great need of a face-lift.

We stayed in a junior suite in the Manor House which is $300 per night (plus state and hotel taxes). For this, we had a tiny bedroom in which the air-conditioning rattled all night as it worked to cool. The queen-size bed was in front of a piece of furniture that banged or clunked with every turn. The tiny, narrow hall led to the bathroom and 2nd bedroom. The 2nd bedroom's air-conditioner began to cool that room after some 12 hours (granted-it was July and very hot and humid); the bathroom was just plain steamy with cobwebs in the corners, dirt on the shower curtain, and a toilet squashed in a corner (you had to sit sideways!).

The dark room was dreary and despite the 6 lamps/sconces it was hard to see no less read. The common rooms were no better and hot as well.

We ate dinner in the dining room, in which the hostess said the air conditioner was set at 55 degrees - but it was hot. The food was mediocre at best, but the wine list was very well priced.

The place looks shop-worn and it's definitely not worth the money. Granted, the Manor House is old but it could use updating and a good clean in addition to some strong lighting. However, there's not much to chose from in the vicinity.

“Service and Food Great! Rooms are Three-Star at best.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2007

We recently stayed at Troutbeck for a wedding. I will say that the wedding was beautiful, the property was beautiful and the grounds are
very well kept.

My chief complaint was the accommodations. The accomodations ARE NOT FOUR STAR! They are 2 1/2 - 3 star maybe. Upon check-in, there was some confusion since there was not a check-in desk that was staffed. We went into the office and found someone and we were taken to our room in the Century Farmhouse, (not the main building of the Inn.) We did not receive a key , and when I asked we were told they normally don't lock the doors. After I insisted, I was issued a key. The Century Farmhouse was cute but needed new carpet and furniture in the common living room. Our room was much less desirable than we expected and was definitely NOT four star! Lighting was terrible. There was one lamp (with 60 watt bulb) to light the whole room. The bed was not very luxurious and the bedspread had stains on it. The bathroom was very small. There was mold on the shower curtain and on the walls in the bedroom. There was no clock or alarm clock in the room- which was very distressing when you are trying to arrive on time at the numerous wedding events during the weekend. I tried calling to get a wake-up call and the telephone didn't work. There were no luggage racks anywhere to put your suitcase. There was no mini-fridge in the room or ice maker nearby to get ice or a cold beverage but when I walked to the main Inn, the manager on duty gave me a glass of ice and a bottle of water. These little inconveniences added up to frustration as the weekend went on. The rooms definitely could be greatly improved at very little cost so I don't understand why it hasn't been done. The only other thing that really distressed me was upon checkout, when I noticed that my room charge for the wedding was $200 (a discounted rate), but I was charged an additional
18% "Service Charge", in addition to the Hotel Tax and the Sales Tax. I have never ever seen that practice in all my years of traveling. And I am in the hotel business! Basically I interpreted this as the hotel's way of getting their full rack rate while still offering a "discount" to the wedding guests. Needless to say, it was suspect. I contested the charge because 1) I was not made aware of the charge when booking 2) on the principle of the matter. They removed the charge.

Overall the property was beautiful . We walked a little by the creek and saw several deer and some beautiful birds. The staff was very helpful in helping us to plan our activities for the weekend and gave
us several brochures to look at. There was internet access available in the main Inn to check in for our flight and print off Mapquest directions. The wedding itself had amazing food and good service. The
food was definitely Four Star!

  • Liked — The property was beautiful and the grounds are very nice.
  • Disliked — Rooms were not that great.
