“Somewhat Dissapointed”

My wife & I spent our anniversary at Troutbeck and were not thrilled by the service and quality of the room. Upon arrival, we entered the reception area with no one on duty, but on a table nearby was an envelope with our name on it which included our room number (no key was in the envelope as there are no key locks). The problem was our room was not in the main building and had no idea where to go as there are 4 seperate buildings. We wandered inside the main building for a while looking for help when we finally stumbled upon an employee outside smoking a cigarette. He looked at our room assignment and said that our room was not available as the prior guest was staying late. (Good thing we didn't find the room, lord knows what we could have seen)

We were given a pricier room in the main building, only to find it was run down and the seperate bathroom was no longer "rustic", it was just old! No matter...we played a little tennis then drove to Millbrook Winery (a must visit) and then got back for dinner at the Troutbeck Restaurant

The restaurant review in Zagat sounded great, so we were looking forward to a nice dinner. The menu was quite limited and ordinary and the specials (which I had and was good) but the service was lacking as the wait staff were most definitely HS students.

The next morning, we had a scant continental breakfast and upon leaving, we tried to ask the staff a question, but to no avail, as no one was around. We again searched but gave up and just left.

All in all, for the $$$, it was so-so. If you are looking for a nice getaway in the region, look around for something else.

“I adored this place”

Troutbeck is really splendid. We spent a long weekend here in one of the corner suites (not cheap) but such a refreshing break from New York and just a lovely place to be. The grounds were immacualte with plenty of strolling and the food was wonderful. Everything you want for a weekend at a romantic new england inn in the woods. And they have tennis courts and a pool which was nice not great but OK. Bring a car if you can, we made the mistake of taking the train and basically being stranded there when we were ready to explore. It's pricey though so watch out. Ouch!

“Wonderful weekend in the country!”

My fiance and I went here for a weekend in January. We did not get to the hotel until after 11 at night. The manager and bellhop greeted us, brought us up to our room and asked if they could get us some drinks.
The bellhop started a fire for us in the fireplace. The room was huge with a sitting area, fireplace, canopy bed and a huge bathtroom with a jacuzzi and shower stall. In the morning we went to breakfast where there are no menus-the cook makes you whatever you want. The staff of the hotel were extremely nice and gracious. Whatever we needed they got for us. And the food was fabulous. I would definitely suggest this hotel to anyone who wants a fabulous, romantic, indulgent weekend in the country.
