“Great location to relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I have been to this property 3 times after going to work in Argentina. The location is by a river and near a lot of farms, rolling hills, and a short ride from the town of Carmelo. The villas are great and there is a relaxing atmosphere. My only problem with this hotel is that the food is not up to par with the rest of the facilities. The only thing I have found that is ok is breakfast and lunch items by the pool because expectations for these is not as great as a fine dinner.
I suggest you go eat at Finca Narbona instead. I believe it is owned by the same group. The only difference is that the food at Finca Narbona is very good as well as the wines, cheeses and jams that they produce.

“Relaxation by the River”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Spent two days at the Carmelo Four Seasons, in between a trip from Buenos Aires to Montevideo. We took the hydrofoil from Buenos Aires to Colonia. Clean, on time and a very relaxing 1 hour trip. Upon our arrival in Colonia we stored our bags and rented a golf cart for our 2 hour self- sightseeing tour through the Old Neighborhood. A charming town that has changed very little since 1680 . We were picked up by the Four Seasons for the hour drive to Carmelo. This resort is very remote, yet very relaxing and comfortable. Mark, the manager, met us upon our arrival and welcomed us with cold and refreshing tea. Our river view bungalow was spacious and beautiful. Make sure you take time for the outdoor shower! Service was a bit uneven, both in the restaurants and maintenance staff. Spa, biking and golf were fun. Breakfast was Ok - not really up to par of other Four Seasons that we have visited. Had dinner at Narbola. Excellent food, wine and service. Very romantic and a special evening. They provided round trip transportation from the hotel. Bring a good book, enjoy the wine and sit back and relax with your special someone.

Room Tip: River view or partial river view bungalow.

“Four days in heaven”

We spent four nights at the Four Seasons in Carmelo for my 40th birthday and I can safely say it was worth every cent. We decided to go for a studio which had views over the river.

We stayed in March so the resort was quiet. By arrangement the resort also served us a private dinner in our villa for my birthday without charge! When we arrived I had an issue with the softness of the bed and asked for a replacement. Within minutes the staff were there with a different mattress. It was still too soft for me so we went back to the original mattress. There were no complaints and the bed was remade again as new.

We also got a great rate. I think it was the fourth night free but the nightly rate still worked out to over $350 USD. I like luxury but am not used to paying that much. I could get used to it though after experience the great service of the resort. The service is especially noticeable during breakfast. We had salmon each morning with 4-5 lattes. Our waiter was superb and chatted with us each day in both perfect english and spanish.

The pool is beautiful in the resort and perfect for sitting around to read a book. Most of the time we felt like the resort was ours.

One thing I would say is that the extra tours (winery, gacho riding) aren't really worth the money. Everything else about this resort though it well worth it.

I have also lived in Uruguay for the last 3 years and can without a doubt say that this is the best hotel / resort in the country.

“Peaceful and Relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Spent five days at the Four Seasons in Carmelo. Get ready for a rural, elegant, and relaxing setting. Not much to do but enjoy the pool, food and service here. Good news all were excellent. If you are looking to relax and disappear from the world for a while this is your place. Great Four Seasons service. Really nice room. Good food. Bring a good book and enjoy. Don't go here for night life and excitement. We had a really nice experience.

“Great place, great country, great people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Uruguay is one of the last best kept secret in South America. This is the felling with wich we left Four Seasons, Carmelo. The people, the place, the service, the food, all worked just fine. We were there for New Year's with another family with two children who enjoyed very much the pool, and the company of another guest children.
The fitness room is fantastic. We will definitely come back and highly recommend.
