our family were members of the health club for 5 years and we stayed overnight back in 2007.. our friends came to stay for 6 nights in December 2010.. as mentioned the hotel used to be the Millenium Sharjah but lost that branding about two years ago.. since then it has been going under the name of "The Corniche Al Buhaira Hotel, Sharjah" and seems to be going downhill little by little since then...
In 2006 we were very impressed with the place but our friends who stayed recently found that things were not as good as before, not as good a selection of food on offer, some staff not so polite.. cleaning not top notch.
though still the best value are the club lounge rooms on the upper floors.... you must make sure to get a room facing the corniche, as the backside has only views of other buildings and the small (noisy) mosque.. the view from the front over the corniche is excellent and well worth it.. but avoid the F1 powerboat competitions in December.. the snacks in the lounge are adequate but complimentary all day long, tea/coffee and soft drinks but no alcohol (this is Sharjah), the rooms are big and comfortable, only local channels on TV, two swimming pools, a sauna and a steam room (if they are still open now following the health club closure) and a small mixed gym.
and if you book early (more than one month) you will get a better rate.. our friends rate went up by a few hundred Dirhams a night cos they booked after the month limit...
there is little to see and do in Sharjah other than the museum's and the blue souq for souvenirs.. so if you are going to head out to Dubai (which is quite close but depends on the traffic) it can take 20 mins or 70 mins.. the tourist will find much more there (including a beer or wine) but may appreciate coming back to the relative small-town of Sharjah for their rest and relaxation..
a couple of years ago there was rumors that the hotel will be operated by "Hilton" but as yet this does not seem the case.. here's hoping cos it's a great location and views..
