My review is based on our experience and will not reflect the majority of opinions, but that may change if the overbooking nightmare continues.
We booked flight, hotel and transfers through Travel republic 7 months in advance, I believe they used hotels4u for our hotel accommodation. On arriving at the hotel we were warmly welcomed by the front of house manager and were pleased and surprised at the fuss he made and shaking off hands, which should have been the first sign that something was wrong.
He proceeded to inform us that there was a slight problem and that the hotel had been overbooked by around 20 rooms and that he had arranged accommodation for us nearby.
Obviously we were none to pleased but had no option but to follow him across the dual carriageway, around the corner we arrived at the Kibela apartments. The manager proceeded to inform us how great these apartments were, the air con was so much better and that the rooms were much nicer and spacious than the ones in the Nergis Select, again we voiced our disappointment at been put in apartments which we considered a total downgrade from what we paid, which was 4 star all inclusive.
The manager then tried to blame the overbooking on Ramadan which I thought was the most pathetic thing I had heard in a long time. We had no choice but to spend the night there until the welcome meeting with the rep in the morning.
After a satisfactory breakfast we waited at reception for the rep, whilst waiting it became apparent we were not alone, which was a small comfort. We got talking to a lovely couple, Corrina and Gareth from Cumbria, who unfortunately were in the same situation having also booked through Travel Republic.
to cut a long long story as short as I can, we were moved from the first apartment into a larger apartment which gave us more room and a nicer view, but was still not ideal, the other part of the agreement with the rep was that we could eat and drink in both the Nergis Select and the Nergis Beach.
This solution was the only one that was available as we were only there for a week, our new friends were there for 2 weeks and got moved into the Nergis on the Thursday, 4 days into their holiday. It was a total inconvenience having to stay in one place and eat and drink in another 2 hotels, I must be honest and say we far preferred the Nergis Beach as it was more to our taste and the lunches and dinners were far better.
I would advise contacting the hotel prior to arriving as you think something like this won’t happen to you, make sure you have a room as by staying outwith the hotel it was difficult to feel part of something when you are only visiting it to eat and drink, not nice.
The majority of people staying at the hotel seemed happy and content, there was a lot of families so sunbeds were reserved for large groups of people but it may not always be like that. The staff seemed friendly and happy and the choice of food was basic but sufficient, can’t say to much as we ate most days at the Nergis beach. We were out most days so can’t comment on the entertainment, we enjoyed the music quiz with our new friends on the last evening.
To sum it up, the holiday was not quite what we expected and we felt badly let down by the travel company and are in the process of seeking some recompence for our inconvenience, on the upside the weather was great and the company of our new friends helped make the holiday more bearable.
