We have just returned from 9 nights in Turunc, My Meric and i felt that i had to write a review here after seeing all of the negative remarks on Trip Advisor.
We paid around £800 for 2 people, 9 nights of all inclusive - hardly expensive compared to some of the other holidays we have had! The hotel, when appreciated for what people have actually paid, is great value for money!
We arrived in Turkey at 1am and had to endure a 3 hour transfer to the hotel, my best advice would be to arrange a private transfer through J & M Travel (a local, English run travel agents). When we arrived we were greeted politely and efficiently and shown to our room on the 4th floor. (Tip: request a room on floors 4 upwards - any below and you are literally on the pool level). Our room had beautiful views of the pool, the beach and Turunc. The room was clean and tidy, it was also very spacious and comfortable.
The pool area, although small, was well kept and the bar staff were absolutely wonderful, they couldn't do enough for you. The restaurant staff were also polite and efficient, they gave wonderful service and chatted away to us every day. A couple of the young waiters are very keen to improve their English and would ask us to tell them different words or expressions, which we thought was brilliant.
Turunc itself is absolutely gorgeous. Nice and quiet, but with lots of bars and restaurants for drinks on a night after the hotel stop serving at 11pm (it is a Muslim country - i'm not sure what all these people complaining about the hotel stopping serving alcohol we're thinking!) Alcohol is priced the same as in the UK, 2 pints was 10 lira - £4.50. Food is very cheap in the restaurants and delicious, we ate out several times and enjoyed every meal. The Turkish Bath next door is fantastic and well worth the £20 for an hour and a half of pampering!
My only 2 bug bears in all this was the fact that over 9 nights the pool bar never changed the CD once. The bar staff would switch on music at 11am and not turn it off until 12pm that night. The same CD was played every day and after 3 days the music becomes predictable and irritating. If you want a quiet room do not book a pool facing room, the music and pool noise is non stop.
My second niggle is the hotel food. My partner and i were more than happy to spend the odd £20 outside the hotel to enjoy a 3 course meal in a beautiful, romantic setting because we paid so little for the actual holiday! I'm not sure what people who no doubt also paid as little as us were expecting for their money, smoked salmon and champagne?!
The food could be quite repetitive on a day to day basis, but there was plenty of it and the chef's did attempt English versions of their Turkish dishes. The food was not inedible, it was just basic. The drinks could be a little watered down but the coffee was lovely - i cannot complain about the lager either. Breakfast was the main problem, Turks do not cook English breakfast - instead there is a selection of hot and cold meats, eggs, breads and cereals. We would have a lay in each day and then head down to Korfez or Musti's who did fantastic English breakfasts.
Overall, you get what you pay for. Use the hotel as a base. There are plenty of great bars and restaurants such as Habit, Nirvana, Tapas Mapas and Pices (do NOT go to Walk Inn Bar - the owner is well known for groping young girls and women who have had a little too much to drink). Turunc is gorgeous and there are plenty of places to visit on the boats or by car/coach etc. My partner and i have decided to book 2 weeks next year in the same hotel - simply take a bit of extra spending money. For what you pay for the holiday it is worth it.
