Just returned from a fantastic two week holiday. Stayed at Select Maris by chance - should have gone to Lykia World but Thomas Cook had stopped sending guests there due to the illness at that resort. ( Their loss our gain!!)
Yes the resort is in the middle of nowhere - 3 miles from the main road and no way of travelling to other resorts in a cost effective manner. But this is what makes this resort so special - no other buildings, let alone hotels in view - just beautiful surroundings, hills, beaches set in a fantastic bay.
The resort is centred around a very quiet and peaceful bay - ideal for swimming and Canoeing. The resort boasts 5 fantastic beaches - all with different themes- general, water sports, children's, adult only and activities. Beaches are accessed either by very scenic walk or better still by the hotel's complimentary speed boat. Beaches are all spotless, sandy, with excellent sun loungers and plenty of space - you are not crowded here. Next to the beach are excellent decked sun bathing areas.
Plenty of kayaks are available on the beach - free of charge- for you use. You can take advantage of these to visit Rabbit Island in the bay where children can stroke and feed rabbits ( you can also get a complimentary speed boat if you prefer).
Next to the beach is a table tennis table , dart board and restaurant ( not open whilst we were there). Water sports and sailing are also available for an additional charge.
The resort also boasts well maintained excellent tennis courts again with free equipment hire and use of the court.
The spa area has an indoor swimming pool and the usual saunas, steam rooms, various showers and ice bowl - all free of charge - you only pay if you want to have a treatment.
The hotel is excellent, clean , spacious. Rooms are fantastic - most have Sea Views ( and with the quirky bathroom blind system - most baths also enjoy sea views!). There are numerous types of pillows ensuring you have a perfect night sleep.
Restaurants offer superb high quality buffet style food with enough choice for even the most fussy eaters. The main restaurant has a different theme each night ensuring a good variety of food throughout the week. Chefs are visible and extremely helpful .
Lunch can be taken in the main restaurant or at the excellent water front restaurant - which does a fantastic daily BBQ on one of the beaches serving excellent food.
So the hotel is fantastic, the surroundings are stunning but what about the staff? - Well rest assured they are all so helpful and friendly - I didn't manage to walk past a single member of staff without them saying Hello - this includes security guards, gardeners, life guards, waiters, chefs etc.
Surely there must be a downside? - the only thing I can criticise is the evening entertainment which was average at best.
So not our hotel by choice but to summarise fantastic hotel, stunning surroundings, great isolated location, brilliant and helpful staff. - Apparently the hotel is going to be fully refurbished for 2011 - quite how they are going to improve what's already here I really don't know.
If your looking for a peaceful, get away from it all, restful holiday with ample activities then there is no better hotel for you.
If you want noise, night life and to be surrounded by other hotels and guests on top of you then this is not for you.
