Good location (next to beach), great pool and bar....... and that's about it.
Upon arrival at the above hotel, at 5:30am on the 3rd September, we were greeted by a rather unhelpful member of staff demanding paperwork to prove that we had booked and paid for the room. We were only carrying our tickets and passports and handed these over. After a few minutes these were returned to us along with the room key, which was thrown across the reception desk. When asked where the room was we were told “fifth floor”. When asked how to find the room we were pointed in the direction of the lifts.
When we got to our room we found that a telephone handset that was in the bathroom was in pieces and had been left on the side of the sink with live wires exposed. This was reported immediately and we were told that it would be repaired the following day. By the end of the holiday this had still not been repaired..
On the first morning, a couple of hours after arriving at the hotel, we went down for breakfast and noticed that some of the “fresh” meat that was available as part of the Turkish breakfast was curled up at the edges and discoloured as though it had been left uncovered for some time. The bread that was provided as part of the breakfast was stale and the scrambled eggs would have gone through a sieve!!!
After a day relaxing by the pool we decided to try the food provided for half-board customers. This was no better than the selection at breakfast!!! The selection on the first night was a choice of chicken or meatballs with either chips or rice. The piece of chicken provided by the chef was minute and the meatballs were barely cooked. The chips looked as though they had been there for a few days and were hard enough to hammer into the table!! We spoke to other guests in the hotel and they had similar experiences with the food, which included bread rolls with cobwebs on them.
The room that we stayed in at the hotel was only cleaned once during the week and this was just a quick wipe around of the table tops. On one occasion the cleaners barged into the room without knocking looked round the door, saw there was someone in the room and left without changing towels or cleaning. We never saw them again after this!
The towels and bedding weren’t changed for the entire week and the dust around the room looked as though it had been left for months. The carpet in the room was threadbare in places and there was also a variety of stains in various places around the room. Much of the furniture was damaged (pieces of wood missing from the front of furniture, handles missing off the wardrobe) and the security deposit box was not even bolted down. There was also a damp smell in the room in addition to the constant smell from the Turkish bath which was located in the basement of the hotel.
We had problems with the doors out on to the balcony. The doors wouldn’t shut properly and when one did shut the other door opened. Because of this we had to sleep with both doors partly open which meant a lot of noise from the nearby road and bar across the road from the hotel.
Over the course of the week we found the staff in the hotel to be quite unhelpful with the exception of the staff that ran the pool bar. The bar staff couldn’t do enough to help the guests at the hotel and wouldn’t have been out of place in the five star hotel next door.
When we left the hotel at the end of the holiday it was a case of "Thank god we've escaped".
This was definitely not My Dream Hotel - more like My Nightmare Hotel!!!!!!!!
