Arrived at this `hotel` at 6-30 AM. We were told by a very unhelpful male that our room would not be ready until NOON !!! We were not at all happy & asked for the manager who was not available.
We returned at noon & was told by the manager that a `very nice room` would be ready in an hour.
We returned an hour later & was told by a girl receptionist that we would not have a room that day !!! the hotel was overbooked & the manager had disappeared. She told us we could have her room & that our room would be available the next day - `MAYBE` !!!
She led us to her room which was hardly larger than a broom cupboard, no wardrobe, no mirror, no balcony, no air conditioning. The shower & toilet room almost defy description, apart from `FILTHY`!!!. In the grimy reception area there were several other couples waiting for rooms who had arrived before we had !!
I decided that we would leave this hotel immediately & went out to look for another.
After a 10 - minute search I found a very nice hotel :-` The Sultan Maris` only about 5 - minutes away. We were charged £20 per night (not each) for a lovely SC. apartment with large kitchen diner- fully equiped, Large double bedroom & a nice clean shower & toilet room. The difference was amazing.
This hotel had a beautiful reception & pool area with entertainment every night.
The staff & management were superb !! . They also had an excellent restaurant.
If you have already booked the `wellcome inn` dont stick it out, for a little bit extra we changed a disaster into a very enjoyable holiday.
The phone no. for the `Sultan` is:- 00 90 252 417 28 26 `e` mail:- sultanmaris@hotmail.com They will make you very welcome & even fetch your luggage from the other hotel.
We had the misfortune to book through `Goldtrail` which went bust whilst we were there.
Not a problem, the hotel manager arranged for a private transfer to the airport which we had to pay extra for but was well worth it. Thanks to the CAA our flight was on time & we got back home safely.
Eating out note:- This area is quite busy with plenty of bars & good restaurants. We would strongly recommend `The corner steakhouse` a very good full English breakfast for £1.99 a large mug of coffee £2. Also excellent steaks at night. Just a couple of minutes from the `Sultan`. Also a very good Chinese buffet restaurant close by.
For your trips & excursions use `A & S` Travel agency a minute from the hotel.
We went on an all day `all inclusive` boat trip for 25 lira (about £11 ) each. this included free pick up, breakfast & lunch on board as much drink as you liked, swimming, a visit to Turunch - a nice little resort for 1.1/2 hours & return transfer to the agency - excellent value & very enjoyable. They also gave as a FREE moonlight boat trip around the bays the next night !!!
I am at present trying to get some compensation from our travel agency but dont hold much hope.
I recommend that if you dont like what you have got then `MOVE` & quickly, the little extra will be well worth it.
