“HOTEL AWFUL”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Arrived at this hotel at 5 in the morning - got keys for a room but the wardrobe doors fell off, got key for another room but it also had doors that fell off and bedding that was torn and patched. Got another room which was big and clean and had whole bedding. That took us nearly 1.1/2 hours to get a room. Slept for about 2 hours and went down to breakfast - have never seen such bad food in a hotel before. There was only a choice of 3 hot dishes - all of them look awful. Went down to dinner at night and it was even worse. There were 4 hot dishes 2 of which were rice and mashed potatoe, the other 2 were chicken which was alright but the beef was chopped up sausages. Never ate in the hotel again. The staff were most unhelpful and even when my husband was unable to walk to the restuarant because of gout they promised to take up and cup to tea for him but after asking about 4 times when it was being taken up the young member of staff just looked confused and walked away. Went to Picadilly across the road - great staff, great food and great prices - full english breakfast for £1.25 and 3 course Sunday lunch for about £6 - the sta\ff went out their way to make you feel welcome and looked after your every need. Can't wait to go back and see the boys they were the best staff I have ever met.

Room Tip: poolside rooms quiet but would be better not going to this hotel.

“Worst hotel in Marmaris”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

We stayed at this hotel 12th - 22nd September 2011 and have to say this has to be the worst hotel we have EVER stayed in.

The rooms were filthy, previous guests linen left on the bed and rooms not cleaned between guests, large patches of mould growing in the bathroom, linen not changed on regular basis if at all, had to complain on several occasions to get fresh linen and the room cleaned. Holes in bedding and towels.

The toilets in the public area were dirty most days no toilet roll or hand towels. You could also smell the stench of urine as you walked down from reception to the restaurant. Due to this we only ate in the restaurant twice as the smell was off putting. There was also one particular waiter who was handling food with a dirty bandage which he had on for over a week. It was only when we complained to the rep that his bandage was changed.

One of the reasons we chose the hotel was that the hotel had a gym. However, none of the equipment worked in this area and note from a previous guests comment that it wasn't working in July.

We know that other guests had items taken from their room and believe that we were lucky as we had been out for the day and had locked everything up before leaving on the morning, however when we returned we found our case open but nothing was taken.

All of this was reported to reception and the rep but nothing was done during our stay. The rep really just paid lip service and was in way over her head at this hotel.

With regards to Marmaris itself. It's a typical holiday resort. Yes there are areas which are a bit chavvy but there are also some lovely parts of the town. We have been to different parts of Turkey and the shop keepers can be a bit pushy but to be honest a polite no normally will suffice and is no different to Tunisia or Egypt.

If the hotel Kalemci had a bit of tlc it has the potential to be a good hotel. However, in it's current state i would recommend that this hotel be removed from the Thomas Cook portfolio.

we stayed at the kalemci september 2011. we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday our rooms were cleaned daily' and were comfortable and quite roomy compared with some three star hotels all the staff were friendly and obliging . we were grateful for the free air conditioning . pool area was a pleasant area with ample sunbeds. the pool was cleaned daily and a good size. breakfast was continental but there were cereals and toast and eggs also fresh crousants, something for everyone. I always enjoyed my evening meal , the salad bar and soup were always good. the deserts were good too. the hotel is in a good position for shops, beach was just a short five minute walk. We had a full english breakfast a couple of times at the bar next door only £2 and good. also a good meal at picadilly bar opposite.Very friendly

“comfortable hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

We stayed in kalemci end of august beginning of september 2011. Just myself, daughter and husband I don't know what people expect from a 3 star hotel, but it was fine. We had a pool view and we had 3 people in 1 room, they put in a fold up bed for our daughter. Air conditioning was on all the time as it was 45 degrees outside in day and up to 30 degrees at night, mind you we spent very little time in the room. Beds were always made and towels were changed, but must admit on last few days only got 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel for 3 people,, good job we hiad our own towels.

JJ and other staff at pol bar were very friendly.l Food was good, just basic burgers, kebabs and salads but very tasty and cheap. Of course you could get it a bit cheaper outside, but it suited us on days we were not on trips to eat at pool bar.

Food in hotel breakfast was continental, we just had toasted bread and jam, or chocolate spread and orange juice and coffee or tea. There were boiled eggs every day and beans on one day so we had beans on toast. This kept us going until lunch at pool bar. Evening meals we always had soup and bread which was always good. Then chicken, fish or meatballs most evening and sometimes chips and maybe stew with rice. There was alway lovely salad stuff available we just took the raw onions which were tasty and not strong. Pudding were always nice and there was always fruit. So all in all for the price paid it was good. If you were hungry later you could get a kebab for 7 lira from takeaway.

“Planning our return next year!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

We also stayed at this hotel last year just returned form another excellent week and are planning to return next year.
Room,
about what we would expect with the bonus of free aircon beds made every day and clean towels every day.
Pool,
plenty of sun loungers with a waiter doing the rounds offering to bring your drinks and clearing the tables, inflatables were welcome, it was not a problem if you moved the sunloungers around to make the most of the sun or shade but plenty of sun umbrellas if needed, all the pool area was washed down every night.
Pool Bar,
Food was great value and the chips were fresh not frozen chicken wraps were also made to order behind the bar in full view wich was great to see, menu was large but the chicken wraps and home made chips were tops, very clean and tidy with full waiter service.
Restaurant,
clean tidy, avoid the first half hour as all the guests seem to rush, great choice, breakfast was the usual continental, with fresh milk and cereal, cold meats, cheeses, plenty of bread, butter, jams, honey, toaster along with the hot foods ie eggy bread, tomatoes with cheese, boiled eggs, potato wedges, baked beans, non pork hotdog sausages ( Turkey do not eat pork!) as much tea, coffee and cold fruit juice you wanted.
Evening meal you had a large selection of salads/pastas, great choice and different hot food every night from chips, chicken portions, pastas, curry, fish, fresh honey melon and upto 5 puddings. I was also offered a vegetarian alternative on a night it was just meat on offer but refused as there was enough choice with the salad/pasta bar.
Staff,
what a great bunch of people they worked long hours and always had a smile, nothing was too much trouble, they made the time of day to stop and have a chat to the guests, whilst we were sat outside waiting for our coach home one of the young lads came out to say goodbye and wish us a safe journey, all the staff were warm and friendly and remembered our names which made us feel at home and welcome.
Marmaris,
the beach has no sand just shale and is covered in sunloungers belonging to hotels and bars, 90% of the shops and bars have staff stood on the path trying to drag you in, they can be very abusive and rood if you say no! everything is cheap for a reason our friends were in Marmaris the week before us and having chosen XL tshirts when they returned home they had been changed for Medium wilst been put into a carrier bag also the watches are found to be not working after a couple of days. So be warned even counterfeit cigarettes are freely on sale!
Overall!
Great friendly hotel, clean and tidy! We dont like what we saw or heard about the area so spent all week by the hotel pool and had a great relaxing week!

Room Tip: pool view rooms have less noise as the hotel is on a busy main road
