“What i know as the Balci hotel-fantastic i thought!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2010

Me and another female friend went to the Balci, it was a last minute thing, only booked the week before and were given a good deal for there so took it. After trying to find any reviews on it we were obviously a bit sceptical and thought we were on our way to a dump!!
On arrival at 5am, tired and feeling a bit haggard we were met by reception staff who were very friendly, our bags were carried to our room.
1-the room- it is basic but clean, sheets towels were clean, we had a balcony, 2 beds, and not much else but what else do you need? Bathroom a bit small and shower does leak all over the bathroom floor but can live with it, water pressure was good which is main thing. Maids came by every morning to give clean towels, toilet paper and clean sheets etc, quiet but nice enough.
2-the pool/bar/restaurant-pool good size but is quite deep all over, no shallow end but is clean and pool area brushed and mopped every night. Waterslide 2 keep little ones amused. Food is okay, we did not use restaurant but ordered snacks from bar, chips/pizza/chicken etc and all were nice enough, no problems and in fact the staff were happy enough to cook something for us after the chef had finished!! Drinks at bar were not as cheap as we thought they would be but could get most things there and bar staff friendly and dressed up cocktails accordingly-sparklers/umbrellas/fruit etc etc.
3-the staff- throughout our stay we found the staff all to be brilliant, Nico head waiter was funny, have a laugh and welcoming to all customers, Sadi barman, charming and always served politely and quickly, all staff took jobs seriously but still had time to entertain guests and play with the kids, i would say it is a kid friendly place also and i may take my son there next time.
They do not like people to bring outside food in to hotel but then i think thats fair, there is a wee market across the road and man works there is friendly and helpful.
Beach just a short walk down the road and close enough to everything without being noisy. Would reccommend this hotel to anyone and it is also in process of being renovated and the new rooms look lovely. If you get a good price dont complain if you do not have satin sheets or there isn't rose petals on ur bed for arrival!
All in all a fantatic place and i don't think i would be happy with anywhere else now, i am definitely going back!

“Great Location to bars/clubs”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2009

THERE ARE GOOD & BAD POINTS TO THIS HOTEL .... i'll start with the good points.... Location is fab, if you are going to have fun & party the night away like we did then it is 10 min walk to the beachfront nightlife (not bar street), you past jacarandas on the way which is a must & we went in the beach club every night !!! but it is stepped bk so it isnt noisy at night, shop opposite for food drink etc. our room was clean & fairly spacious but the shower is ridiculous- so small & water ended up every where, that was defiantly the only let down of the room- however they are basic & our balconey was facing a building so not great views but we were hardly in the room, we met 2 girls who had a room on the top floor & it was so much better than ours.

the food was horrible & I AM NOT FUSSY but you had to queue up like you were bk at school & the chefs served the food on your plate- we ate there twice the whole wk, couldnt tell you what breakfast was like ! the drinks are watered down but i think its like that generally in lower stared hotels in turkey. also they wouldnt always let us het more than one drink at night which was a pain when there was 4 of us !

ENTERTAINMENT- none existant, occassionally breakdancers or a belly dancer would come in ! we couldnt wait to get out to the bars

any questions please feel free to email me kellehayes@hotmail.com - would i go bk no, but i had a great holiday & the loaction was great.

“You get what you pay for!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 April 2009

Overall Conclusion
----------------------------
I came here in september with 3 other girls for 2 weeks.

I wasnt too disapointed as we only paid £330 for 2 weeks all inclusive. I think when people arrived they were gutted as they had spent a large amount of money. If you get the opportunity to go here cheap then do it but be prepared to eat out the odd night as food can get very samey. The hotel is also aimed at the Danish so you will find guests from other countries.

Food
--------
Breakfast
--------------
consists of olives, bread (no toaster) cheeses, egg, salad and fruit.
May not suit some peoples taste, however the Old Trafford bar round the corner do a full English for £2.

Lunch
-----------
Reasonable.............pastas, soups, bread and salads which were very nice. Very basic but you dont expect much for a mid-day meal.

Dinner
----------
For me this was the biggest disappointment, evening meals are meant to be enjoyed and a good time to socialise, however the food here was purely just food to get you by,

Do not fear, you could get a great meal out just down the road with drinks etc for less than £10.

Accomodation
----------------------
We were located on the top floor................beleive it or not, this was the best place to be.
The rooms here had recently been refurbished. It was actually quite nice with a nice balcony overlooking the mountains.

I think the food situation overshadows the hotel itself. Its in a fantastic location, shops over the road and a 10 min walk from the beach.

The pool is stunning..............really cold but just what you need when your boiling hot. The trick is to either go straight down the slide or jump in.

Entertainment
-----------------------
I think they may have had someone in once a week dancing with snakes. This hotel isnt suited for families. Its more of a roughing it place, somewhere to sleep at night with a very nice pool for the day.

My tip is if you get to go here for less than £300 then book it, just take extra pennies to eat out and its worth it even for the free local drinks.

I spent approx £500 for 2 weeks. We ate out most of the time, did 3 excursions, the water park and came back with hoodies, wallets and handbags etc.

You would be lucky to get by on that for a week on € the way their currency is at the moment. Outside the EU is definately the answer.

I am going back this year but just to a different hotel.

Enjoy! Marmaris is a beautiful place! :-D

“Ok, but definetly not worth the money or travel!”

We arrived at the balci after an almost 2 hour bus journey.
First impressions where ok, very basic.
room was fine, although 2 singles beds & not a double like we thought would have been. bathroom was ok, shower was small and just not a great shower.
there are 4 floors and no lifts. that was ok as we werent in the hotel very often. As time went on staying at the balci, we really began to not like the place.
Everything was so repeatitive and basic. considering what we paid we werent expecting an awful lot anyway..but what we got was just crap.
food was fine, I liked it. alot of turkish food - pasta's,noodles, chicken, salads etc. but my bf didnt like it and ate out the whole holiday.
all inclusive drinks included - vodka, gin, raki, brandy, wine, beer. they where also ok, always very strong though. u had to ask for more mixer to be put in. The annoying thing about the drinks was they where in small plastic cups!
so the drink didnt last long & u had to keep going back up and it all felt kinda childish or something..
there was only entertainment 1 night a week which we knew this before we went anyway..we missed the entertainment though so I cant comment on that.
hotel was packed with scandalnavians.
and people that worked in the hotel werent good at all with english which was very annoying, especially as we missed our coach to the airport because the guy in reception couldnt understand what we where saying when we asked him about our coach times as it was to be faxed to reception!
so we had to run for a taxi to get our flight on time & that cost us 120lira!
also a warning...i ended up having to go into hospital (i have problems with my stomach) and i had travel insurance, but i only found out..this only covers so much! so i was left paying 168lira (more money!) and again because people there where bad at english...so i couldnt understand why i had to pay this.

overall I didnt like Turkey. it seems a nice place for families and groups. but definetly not couples.
and if i was to go back I dont think I would stay at the Balci.

  • Liked — clean, not far from marmaris town
  • Disliked — the shower, drink cups, bad english!

“worst hotel ever stayed in”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2008

read lots of reviews before going and was expecting bad but not as bad as it was. food was terrible same slop served up from night before but in a sauce or middlre of pizza you never get anything english not even chips if you want chips you have to pay for them,we lived on bread and butter for 3 days and fruit and after that we had to eat out ever day, the pool was lovely andf drinks ok. rooms shabby and air conditioning not brilliant. another review said was like fawlty towers and that is a correct description of hotel. the only good thing about this hotel is the staff are friendly and its really near to beach and shops. not many english here would say 95% danish people.please dont go to this hotel all inclusive as you will end up spending a fortune having to eat out. and all the other english in this hotel when we were there were saying the same as us.
