“Good and Bad, wouldnt really recommend it”

To start with I was 17 and travelled with my boyfriend who was 20. The main reason we booked this hotel was because of the waterpark. But it did help that we got it extremely cheap (£500 for both of us, 1 week b&b). But to be honest I can see why we got it so cheap.
Arrival
Our flight was delayed 18 hours so we ended up missing out on a full day of our holiday, we did get compensation and apparantly it rained all day on the day we missed, so we wernt too dis heartened. Anyway when we arrived at 9pm the first thing we did was ask where we could get food as they were no longer serving food. They ordered 2 kebabs for us and they were delivered to us which I thought was good and the chicken kebab was spot on!

Room
When we got there the man at the reception said there was a suprise when we got to our room, so we hurried up to our room to check it out. well. we looked in all the draws, cupboards and whatever the suprise was, it definatly wasnt obvious. Our room was out of the way but still close to everything as this hotel is only small and the views in the morning were spectacular! There was stagnant water in the fridge which made the fridge stink! The fridge wasnt even turned on, turns out it was broken...did they replace it. NO! There was a discusting huge, brown stain on our duvet and bed sheets. Which to be honest looked like poo. They didnt change the sheets all week. The toilet didnt flush alot of the time and when it did it would be loud and noisy for a good 20 mins. Which is bad news if you need the toilet in the middle of the night. Good luck with getting back to sleep. The light on the ceiling was hanging off exposing wires. The room was definatly not up to the standard it should of been. Even if we did get it cheap it really wasnt acceptable. We did complain to the manager but he didnt want to know. He is aggressive and favours people who have paid more money... Like big familys or returning guests. Oh and it turns out our "suprise" was that we had been upgraded to the honeymoon suite because of our delay. I dread to think what any of the other rooms are like if we had the "honeymoon suite".

Pool/Waterpark
We didnt use the bottom pool as we just spent time in the waterpark. The waterpark was great fun...If you dont mind the cold. The water was freezing! But if you dont mind that then you will love it! We spent most of our time here. The only bad points are they keep a huge great dane dog in the waterpark at night. There was dog poo everywhere that they didnt clean up for the whole week. So when we were lying there sun bathing we had a rather nasty pong lingering. Also the people who watch the slides and help people on and off rings etc etc are extremely pervy. Actually all of the staff are pervy.

Entertainment
Worst...EVER! Fair enough we travelled in october so it was coming to the end of the season but the entertainment was just dire! There was nothing on at all. The only thing they did do is have music blaring till 3 in the morning. I also think the cd is on loop as we heard the same songs 100s of times throughout the week. We never went out to see what the nightlife was like so that maybe better?

Food
Average. We only had breakfast included so we made sure we filled our bellies in the morning. I just had cornflakes every morning as thats the only thing people dont grab and put back which was happening with bread/sausages etc. We ate lunch 3 out of the 6 days we were there at the resort. I ate off the kids menu as everything else was a bit pricey. But the kids portions were big enough anyway. We ate tea at the hotel every night. And again we both ate off the kids menu except for one night when I had a kiev and my boyfriend had pineapple chicken. Mine wasnt cooked at all so i left it. My boyfriend complained that his tasted funny and 20 mins later he was throwing up. Would reccomend eating out instead of the hotel.

Beach
Was okay. we got the 5 min bus ride to olu deniz 4/6 days we were there. Everyone makes out that olu deniz has the most amazing beach. Its pebbly/gritty shingle not sand so it was impossible to walk on. But i just wanted to sunbathe and it was quite pleasant. Blue lagoon is rubbish! We had a walk around for 5 mins, The beach was all pebbles and the water looked like an english lake. Definatly proves the brochure pics are photoshopped/edited.

Other comments.
The weather was mid to high 20s all week. only rained on the 1st day. Our rep was vile. She was heavenly pregnant so probaly why she was so moody. Also we did 1 excursion through 1st choice. The turkish bath. cost us 110 lira for both of us to have a turkish bath and 1 hour massage. Turns out the place we had it at actually charged half of that so do not book excursions through 1st choice. If you go down to olu deniz there are turkish baths everywhere! we had one at the belcheckas (not sure on spelling) hotel.

“Nice hotel but, beware of the waterpark”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2010

Hotel nice enough our rooms were cleaned everyday with clean towels daily aswell.
We stayed B&B, the rooms were quite small and the breakfast not very nice unless you like bread cheese & olives. The staff were very friendly and helpful. waterpark on site but beware its not supervised very well. My friend cut her head open because she went on one of the slides with a dingy which was ment for another slide, staff are not on hand to tell you what to use, no age or height restrictions she ended up with 3 stitches in the back of her head. The hotel is a bit off the beaten track but there are regular buses to Fethiye, Hisaronu and Olu Deniz. You can walk to Hisaronu will take about 15-20 min's. Lots of restaurants, gift shops and clothes shops selling alot of 'genuine fakes!' There is a market in Fethiye and one in Hisaronu worth going to. Lots of places to book excursions which are a lot cheaper than your reps. Not much excursions for young children - we travelled with a 2 & 4yr old. We stayed from 29th sept -4 Oct weather really nice 29-35 degrees. There is a small shop across the road where you can get you laundry done which is cheaper than hotel. Hotel was nice and quite but we stayed near the end of the season not sure what it would be like if it was really busy (maybe june - Aug). The Coffee Pot does a sunday roast every sunday really nice. There are lots of places to eat, it was a bit of trial and error for us some places are a lot better than others - avoid the Rockpool horrible food/ aggressive staff. There are no McDonalds, KFC or Pizza Huts, there is a take away called Pizza Pizza if you want the fast food stuff.
Generally a very enjoyable holiday with great weather, would visit turkey again.

“Fantastic Hotel!! Same time next year!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2010

I have recently returned from a stay in the Grand Ucel for a friends wedding and I'm ready and waiting to book to go back to Grand Ucel the same time next year.

On arrival to the hotel we were greeted by the staff who were ready and waiting to check us in and get us to our rooms. I was part of a very large group and most hotels would could have had issue's getting us all checked in but they were fully prepared for our arrival.

Once we were checked in there was staff ready to take your luggage up to our allocated rooms whichn were in my opinion perfect for what we needed and definitely better then expected.

The rooms are bright and clean with either twin or double beds (depending on your booking) with a spacious wardrobe, large dressing table with mirror and even a fridge.
The bathroom was what you would expect but more then sufficent for two people. The shower was nice and powerful and we always had hot water (not always the case in Turkish hotels).
The balcony's are a little small but lets face it you don't really want to spend your holiday sat on a balcony.
The rooms were cleaned and towels changed daily.

Breakfast was included in our room price and although it was only a Turkish breakfast there was variety.
The hotel also provide a Buffet dinner which consists of chicken, Fish or Pasta with different varieties of salads and veg. I only ate there once as i like to go out to eat but it was lovely.
There is also a pool side restaurant which would cater to everyone's taste with things like chicken strips, Jacket potato's, toasted sandwiches, pizzas and so on.

The hotel is attached to a Aqua-park which kept the kids and the men entertained throughout the holiday with lifeguards on duty.
There are beds around the Aqua-park but if peace and quiet is more your scene then the main pool is best. Its large with plenty of beds for everyone (there were 90 of us plus other residents in the hotel).
If you do want to get out of the sun for a while there's a cave which has large pillows to sit on.

All the staff at the hotel were brilliant and honestly couldn't do enough for you.

As i said i was there for a friends wedding which was amazing. Polat the owner and his staff made sure everything was perfect and definitely succeeded.
The reception was held at the hotel which looked beautiful. Nothing was forgotten the food was incredible and the staff brilliant.

I honestly can not recommend this hotel enough whether its for a wedding or just a well needed break.

Ill definitely be back and have even told friends to go to the Grand Ucel.

Thanks to all the staff for making our holiday so fantastic!!

“Perfect. Everything you could wish for and more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2010

We recently stayed at The Grand Ucel as part of a large wedding group. There was 90 of us out there for my friends wedding and the hotel could not have been any better for us or the wedding party.

We arranged transfer through the hotel and when we arrived at the airport the minibus was there ready and waiting for us. The transfer was about 40 mins but it was comfortable in a modern vehicle with air-conditioning and comfortable seats.

When we arrived at the hotel, the check in process was very smooth and efficient, even with a group of our size. There was members of staff on hand to take our luggage to our rooms and to show us where our room was allocated. They showed us all the amenities in the room and checked there was no problems.

The room itself was very good for what we was expecting. The room included a double bed, an ambundance of wardrobe space, large dressing table with large mirror, TV and plenty of space. The bathroom was not the biggest but my room only had a shower (other friends had a large bathroom with a bath tub so it depends on the room). The rooms are also very clean and a maid service is provided daily so there should be no problems with cleanliness of room and towels.

The price we paid included Breakfast, which was Turkish. This was basic but still provided a great setup for the day ahead. It included cereal, bread and spreads, scrambled eggs, some sort of sausage, olives, salami, melon etc. Its not your typical breakfast but there is plenty of it and caters for most tastes.

The hotel has the advantage of being attached to the Aquapark which kept our group entertained for the 2 weeks. It is a really good setup because the Aquapark with its 6 slides is on one level whilst there is another large pool down away from the hussle and bustle of the waterpark. This provides a good area if you want to relax around a quieter pool. If you are looking for complete relaxation, then the quieter pool also has a large cave area that provides a shelter away from the heat and also filled with large cushions so a perfect area to have an afternoon nap.

The hotel itself is perfect. The location is out of the town centre but is easily acces via the local Dolmus service, which is reliable and regular, and only costs around 2.5TL to most destinations. The entertainment onsite is not the best and they only provide a Turkish night 1 night each week but the local areas provide plenty of things to do, so this did not cause any problems.

I can not praise the staff enough, especially the owner Polat. They could not do enough for you and was at our service 24 hours a day, whatever the request. They really do go out of their way to help.

As mentioned earlier, our friend was getting married in Turkey and they was holding the wedding reception at the hotel. They arranged everything for them and they did an absolutely amazing job. No detail was left out and everything on the day was perfect. They decorated the hall and hotel amazingly and made sure that the day run without a hitch. I can not express how great they made this day and other friends are even considering cancelling their booked wedding in England to have the wedding at The Grand Ucel, they was so impressed.

I have rambled on enough about this hotel but just wanted to say how perfect it was and how great the staf were. We are already booking up next year to return and all 90 people said they would definately return.

Thank you for everything Polat and look forward to seeing you again soon.

T (Best Man)

“Awful”

Been to Turkey many times and this was the worst hotel we have stayed in. rooms small and the balcony was Tiny, too small to sit out on and relax.
Turkish breakfast was ok, the food was covered by either tin foil or cling film, which was never put back by previous user getting food, so the food was constantly exposed to flies.
Guests had to cut their own bread. The bread was handled with bare hands by each guest, so cross contamination was evident.

The pools were cold and the pool area was very slippy, when wet, people were slipping and falling, even when walking only.

The staff were miserable and charged different prices for drinks. No price list on display. An example was 2 small cans of Efes 5 tl or 1 for 4tl?. when i went for 2, they said 6tl.
We booked through First Choice and part of the booking was free air con. On our last day a Manager tried to charge us and when i refused, he became threatening. We had to contact First Choice, who sorted it out.

Nigh time was very noisy, the staff had the music very loud up unti 02:00, so it was impossible to sleep until then, unless you were a good sleeper. The hand out in the rooms asks guests to be quiet after 00:00, some chance, they were coming back to their rooms at all hours shouting and singing. One guest actually shouted at some guests to shut up and this was at 04:00.

I would go back to to Ovacik anytime, but not to the Grand Ucel.
