“Shhhh don't tell anyone about this hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2009

The previous reviews really summed up this place. Scruffy and in need of some TLC overlooking a boatyard, but otherwise superb views; good, hearty Turkish breakfast and very friendly staff.
The fact that most of the guests were there for their 2nd, 3rd up to incredibly their 13th year just sums up the response to this hotel, - like them we will be going back.
If, however, you want flunkies, white marble, manicured lawns etc. please go elsewhere.
Oh and if you want a cost effective way to go diving at a really good dive centre (Anglo/Turkish owned and run) then the European Dive School is on site.

“Taking a balanced view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2009

We read some negative feedback on the hotel, but also, reading between the lines, we saw that it has to be viewed as a "budget hotel". Our needs are simple - somewhere clean, comfortable beds, air conditioning. For approx £6.50/day The Mediteran provided this, and included a simple but pleasant breakfast. this was enjoyed sat on the waters edge, something that less than a handful of hotels in the town can provide, as they are divided from the sea by road and harbour promenade.

Some stuff has been written about noise fro the adjacent boatyard. All I can say is that in two weeks, I heard the very occassional sound of a distant drill or props being hammered into place to support boats of all shapes and sizes in dry dock. I then had the pleasure of watching the refurbishment progress, and their re-launch. Inever heard a single complaint about noise in the two weeks I was there! In fact, I've never stayed in a hotel where there were so many people who had visited in previous years. My wife and I are committed to returning next year, something we have never done before.

Staff at the hotel are as friendly as you would hope for, and were particularly so towards visiting children. The town is excellent. it is of course a holiday town, but it caters mostly for vacationing Turks - I would estimate 80-90% of visitors to be from Turkey. Notably they have no mosquitos!!! It is always a concern on The Med, but it seems that a nightly spray of the area seems to keep them at bay! my wife is particularly regarded a delicacy by mozzies or anything else that bites, but nether she nor anyone else even saw or heard a mozzie, let alone get bitten.

I always suspect that people who have negative experiences are quick to put them into reviews, whereas those who have positive experiences just take them for granted. I hope this review might provide a little balance to anyone who might be happy to accept a hotel who provide a service ten times better than a UK Youth Hostel ( bless 'em- I use them a lot too!) at a third of the cost, with breakfast and sunshine thrown in!

My exellent rating of this hotel is on the basis of it exceeding my expectations, given the cost and having read some previous negative feedback.

Thanks to all at the Mediteran - see you next year! Jim, Rebecca, Lucas XXX

“Disaster, Horrible and Upsetting”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2009

Holiday in Fethiye in Hotel Mediteran.

Me and my wife had a good time in Turkey, the weather was great, food was tasty and the environment and people was great. Unfortunately the hotel was not 3 stars as stated and I believe its not even 2 stars, this is misleading. The condition was bad, the room was a disaster, in our room, the sofa was broken, there bed sheets was torn, towels were not comfortable and there were ants on the floor amongst other issues.

AC didn’t work well either. I had no complaint about the Management or food provided but very angry as when I booked it wrong information was provided and we paid for 3 stars where in return we got a 1 star service and accommodation.

Other than that it was upsetting 1st few days but later it we got use to it and spent most of our times outdoor.

I will tell anyone to ensure you read the reviews 1st before deciding!!!!!!!!

“relaxed,easy going,and simple !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2009

rooms are larger than usual, bathrooms look as though they have just been re-tiled etc,the pools very big but never too many people around it which is good.the bar and restaurant area is superb right on the waters edge, don,t be put off by the reception area as this could do with a paint job.all the other guests thought the same as us
,that it was better than they expected after reading other reviews,we would certainly be happy to go back.

“What do you expect for £6 a night? With breakfast!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2009

I booked this hotel because I was doing a diving course and the diving centre is in the hotel grounds. For a tired diver needing to crash, it was right on the money.
It is exactly what I expected from the reviews. It's a bit run down and basic, towels and sheets are ancient but kept clean. Water wasn't hot very often. However I never saw any of the unsafe wiring mentioned elsewhere. The road outside gets noisy at the weekends as well. Breakfast is Turkish style, not loads of choice but plenty of good fresh stuff to fill you up for the morning.
The people who complain bitterly seem to have booked it as a special holiday, or to spend quality time with their partners and family. Well come on now, you need to be paying considerably more than this for a decent holiday, probably 10 to 15 times more, are you daft? Are you called Titus? Fethiye is more of a working town than a resort anyway.
I had supper in the hotel a couple of nights and the food is on the good side of okay. Staff are all right really once you get used to them. They do run out of change, but pay as you go and then deduct the change that owe you from your next item, they'll understand.
The downmarket location of the hotel and the fact that Fethiye is not yet a proper resort probably means that it wouldn't be economical for them to spend a lot of money upgrading it. However for divers or backpackers, as long as your not paying much more than £10 a night it's not bad value.
