“Get what you pay for????”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

We stayed here in September 2011.
Our room wasn't ready when we arrived but staff made us comfy by the pool and gave us a free drink whilst we waited. When we did see our room it wasn't quite what we expected! After reading previous reviews on here prior to booking, I paid a suppliment to have a quieter poolside room, away from the noise of the dual carriageway. When I queried why we had been given a room overlooking the busy road despite paying extra for a poolside one I was old there were no poolside rooms left? The noise from the road was terrible, waking us each morning from around 5am!! We stayed for 11 nights and didn't have one good nights sleep for the whole holiday, this was a pity as apart from that the hotel was very good value for money. Calis as a whole was lovely, the food fantastic, the excursions brilliant and the people friendly, we will be going back again next year but will give the Cenk Bey a miss.

Room Tip: I would ring the hotel direct and ensure you can book a poolside room before paying any money,.Than...

We arrived at the Cenk Bey Hotel to find that the hotel looks onto a dual carriageway! We were put into a family room as there was myself, husband and 13 yr old daughter. The noise from the traffic was incredible, for that we didn't get any sleep. The next morning we asked to move rooms, they put us in separate rooms over looking the pool. We asked for another family room as we were the only guests in the hotel I couldn't see a problem, but was refused, so I slept with my daughter as she felt uncomfortable being on her own and my husband slept on his own.The hotel was dirty and the shower was a joke! The smell was awful and even at the back of the hotel the noise from the tennis courts first thing in the morning and dogs barking all night was rediculous! We felt we were left stranded as our rep was no were to be found not even answering her phone, that was Media Travel we booked with and they were hopeless. We paid halfboard and you got what you were given if you didn't like it, it was tough! I hated every minute of being there because we were not welcomed as they where closing. The whole resort was shutting down. I blame the holiday company for not telling us this information. We had to sort out the transfer from the hotel to the airport as there wasn't any times of pick up sent.It was our first time booking on the internet. Never again. We wouldn't go back if you'd paid us!!!

“Hmmm...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

Well what can I say? This was our first holiday in 2 years and we were REALLY looking forward to it. We arrived at Cenk Bey in the afternoon and were greeted by a friendly member of staff who checked us in quickly and carried our bags up to the top floor (No lift). Our room was very small and had only enough space for a bed and a wardrobe. Luckily we didn't go on holiday to stay in the 7 x 7 room. Decided to have a shower...No hot water and only a drip from the shower head. Plenty of cold water which soon had the bathroom flooded as the plughole in the floor simply didn't appear to be able to deal with any sort of water near it.
The rooms can only be described as basic and nothing more - as is the whole hotel - a one star at very best in dire need of a really good tidy up and refurb.
Food... Typical Turkish mese type starters which were very tasty with a choice of around 10 different things. NO choice of main course. There was one dish and if you didn't like it, you didn't eat there. The staff have been trained to within an inch of their lives to dish out a bare minimum portion of food - For example soup. 1 ladle full would be appropriate - not here, a quarter of a ladle in the bowl at best, just covering the bottom of the dish. That said, all the staff including the owners ate the same food - however they were all able to help themselves and managed an adult portion. Don't get me wrong, we are not at all faddy eaters and avoid any sort of English food wherever we holiday, but we do expect a reasonable portion and a bit of variety which simply doesn't happen at this hotel.
Drinks were no different and my husband and I were horrified when we asked for a glass of red wine each, to see it being measured into a SHOT glass before being transferred into a huge wine glass! All at top price. I honestly thought they were only going to ask us to taste it before pouring a full glass, but no, that was it. All spirits were poured out of sight under the counter. I once asked for a vodka and a seperate mixer. The vodka never appeared and the mixer was taken away to apparently have it added, which I seriously doubt it was. We do not make a habit of moaning about our holidays, but after having read the glowing reviews of this hotel, we honestly wondered if we were staying at the same place. All the Brits we met during our two week stay said exactly the same thing. How a place with such brilliant write ups just wasn't! - Yes the staff were friendly enough, but only if you were giving them something. Cenk never spoke once, not even hello although Andrea did say hello most days. It appears that this hotel caters for our German chums in the main. There were a large group of them staying at the same time as ourselves and nothing was too much trouble for the staff where they were concerned. Breakfast was from 8am - 10am.and typically Turkish with olives, honey, cheese and boiled eggs. Turn up by 8.30 at the latest or there is very little left and it is not replenished. We turned up at 9am one morning. There was no cheese, no eggs, no melon and when I asked for some, the staff simply shrugged his shoulders and said 'no more'. One man asked for a 3 egg omelette and was denied and was told no one could have more than 2. From a business point of view this hotel should be making a bomb as there are certainly absolutely no frills for customers. As mentioned earlier, I honestly now cannot understand why/how people are raving about this hotel. If you want the most basic of basics and don't mind 1 star, then it's ideal. If you want any more than that, then you would be better off elsewhere. Fortunately being stalwart Brits, we made the best of it all and had a pleasant break in the sun.

Room Tip: There aren't any!

“You wont be disapointed at Cenkbey”

First time at Cenkbey but im sure we would go again. The rooms were very clean but basic and functional. Theres no lift and the third floor tells on your legs after a week...also we missed a tv in our room...although we are on holiday we like to have a tv to watch while getting ready to go out or pre dinner...The food was really really good. Breakfast was varied although still basic turkish with eggs and tomatoe and cheese...you could also choose yoghurt with jams, cornflakes and a toast making facility but best of all a cook waiting to fry, scramble or make you an omelette with eggs for breakfast. Evening meals were varied every day, not always to our taste but thats our fault not theirs. With a really tasty home made soup and bread, choice of 20 mazies and a hot meat/fish meal followed by a sweet, im sure everyone could eat their fill and be happy. The family sit and dine at the same time, Cenk & Andrea and their children and speak and mingle with guests all the time making everyone welcome. The staff were always polite, never rude and were always helpful and eager to please. It has a great location and is only a short walk from the beach, although the beach is shingle the cenkbey has its own super pool with a large outdoor chess set to play.! All in all we all enjoyed our stay at the Cenkbey and thought it was a friendly and very clean hotel to enjoy your holidays in..Top marks all round....( except for no tv in room..)... Also it is on a main road and if your room is on the front then you can expect some traffic noise...although we only heard it on the first night... Go for it ...you wont be disappointed..

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool/garden are quieter than being on the main road at the front, we did reque...
