We decided to "elope" in some way, with only 25 guests including my husband and I.
I spoke with Laurie on the phone at first and found her to be very pleasant. We communicated via email and she ALWAYS responded back promptly with all the answers I needed. She went above and beyond, especially with the flowers...
When we visited the place, it was beautiful. The outside trellis was simple and very pretty, right by a small stream. The Gathering Place was BREATHTAKING. Absolutely beautiful space with light streaming in from the ceiling and the windows. Big adirondack chairs lined the deck with a view of the greenery around the property. The huge columns were lined with lights and greenery. It was air conditioned, which is nice for a hot summer wedding. The fireplace was also a very romantic spot to get married if inclimate weather should arise. I was almost hoping for rain on our wedding day because Laurie painted a picture of candles in and around the fireplace that sounded so romantic. We snatched it up.
On the day of our wedding day, even though we were a small player as compared to the much larger wedding later that day, Laurie allowed me to come a half hour early to change into my gown. Now, the room provided wasn't what I would call luxury, but it was perfect nonetheless. My photographer took pictures in the room, on the small balcony, even in the shower(hehe). I thought it was a perfect little room to get ready in. We were married down by the stream. Laurie took care of everything, letting everyone know where to go and what to do (as we had no wedding party, no rehearsal was necessary). She made sure the groom and grooms mom got their flowers, which by the way, were incredible (I think she uses Bella Fleur in Altamont). I had Gardenia's and mint leaves... gorgeous. He had a silk lilac that didn't look in the least like silk. Laurie directed me and my fathers to where we needed to go and provided someone to cue the music for me to walk. The ceremony was short and sweet, the JOP was a wonderful woman. We had some pictures by the wishing well and under the trellis. Then we proceeded to the Gathering Place for our dance, our cake and champagne toast... which I might add, was all included in the elopement package. She put linens down and really made the space feel like an actual wedding not just a quickie elopement. She went above and beyond what she needed to do to make our day very special. She may be abrupt, and a bit opinionated, but she knows her stuff and I liked how straightforward she was with us. And might I add, we had a beautiful ceremony, cake, champagne toast, officiate, etc, all for about $1,000. You really can't beat it.
Laurie was a wonderful hostess, and I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to elope but want something nicer than a town hall wedding. I have heard nothing but pleasant things about this place and wanted to share my pleasant experiece. A+ in my book.
