“Glorious Gülevi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

I actually visited the hotel in September 2008 (the menu no longer allows that date), but the memory of this beautiful, peaceful, traditional, tasteful and painstakingly restored Ottoman house and its idyllic garden and separate dining room has remained vivid. The owners were extremely helpful to us, despite our asking complex questions about the area. The breakfasts were a delight. As for the TV question asked by another reviewer, I was able to watch the final of the US Open (tennis) at 2 a.m. in the bar/TV room on the ground floor, disturbing no-one, the owner having set up the appropriate channel for me. The one drawback was being woken at 4 a.m. one night by loud drumming outside, but that was a local custom connected with Ramadan. and not the hotel's responsibility. I loved the place and will gladly return whenever I can.

“Best thing about Safranbolu!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2010

Gulevi Butique Hotel is absolutely beautiful, its' facilities; the peaceful garden which is great to relax, rich breakfast menu and etc. These regular services were above the standarts but this hotel is more than that. The buildings and the rooms are sophisticated and elegant every detail makes your stay even more enjoyable. If you want to have a real Safranbolu experience this hotel is the place to stay for it was restored keeping the original structure.
The owners of the hotel; which is a very important element for me- are just charming, their kind ways and having chat with them was always a pleasure but never overwhelming.

“An amazingly beautiful hotel ... BUT”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2010

I must admit that Gulevi is an outstanding hotel ... so beautiful ... the owner who is an award winning architect did one amazing job
it's staying in an Ottoman mansion while enjoying all the modren stuff.
Rooms are beautiful, big, linen clean, bathroom spotless and very modern
breathtaking garden, delicious breakfast ... and good location.
the problem with this hotel is the service and the owners... throughout my stay i felt there was practically no one to take care of the guests ... one could sit in the garden dying for a cup of coffee but no one is there to help or offer assistance ... and when a girl who appeared to be related to the owners comes to ask if we need anything it's as if she was forced to do so, never with a smile ... it was so uncomfortable... another problem was that if you run out of toilet paper for example ... you have to go all the way to one of the owners and ask for it (embarassing) ... the owners try to be polite but lack the warmth and friendliness of turkish people so i felt they were rather cold and unwelcoming ... polie but never genuine ... throughout my stay the owners and thier friends occupied the common areas ... it felt very uncomfortable ... at times we felt unwanted .... the owners and thier freidns were also noisy that i can hear them talking and laughing loudly while in my room .... as much as i loved the place i never felt comfortable ... my experience at Gulevi is so mixed up ... i would love to stay there again but i don't think i will ... not with the same owners i won't

“Journey to the past with Gülevi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

It is the place where the historical past talks to you. Owners, family Canbulat, with their architectural knowledge, have made all in order to restore the history as it was. The warm reception and hospitableness of the family transform this cosy historical hotel into your own house. This oldest small town of historical architecture really needs to be preserved and shown everyone, and it is what this family trying to do. Thank you Ibrahim and Gul Canbulat!

“unpolite response at reservation”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2010

When I called for reservation, I asked whether they had a TV in the rooms, and explained that I am asking as the Basketball World Championship semifinal match would be played on that night. The hotel owner's response was suprisingly rude. He just hang up the phone by saying talk to you another time, there wasn't even time to give an answer.
