Naz Han's location is great: walking distance from the St. John basilica, the citadel, the mosque, and the museum, and a short drive from Ephesus. It's also right in downtown Selcuk, easy walking distance to many restaurants.
I can't say enought great things about the manager, Nazmi Karadayi. He went out of his way to help us. We had received a speeding ticket at a speed trap outside of Konya. Nazmi graciously offered to take the ticket and our payment to the local government office and handle paying it so we wouldn't have to take time out of our touring schedule. As it turned out, my husband and his passport were required, so Nazmi made a second trip to the office, this time accompanied by my husband after we returned from touring. Nazmi was invaluable in providing translations so my husband could understand what was needed to pay the ticket. Bureaucracies are bureaucracies the world over, and without Nazmi's help, we would have spent much more time dealing with the ticket.
Nazmi and his aunt were great hosts throughout our two night stay. Breakfasts were excellent and served individually based on the time we told them we would like to eat each morning. Naz Han's Istanbul-based owner is lucky to have such great caretakers at his hotel, since without them, we would have probably rated the hotel average vs. very good, despite the great location. Nazmi and his aunt's service made the difference for us. (Nazmi will be going to do his mandatory military service in the coming months, so he may not be there by the time you read this review.)
While the old Greek building housing the hotel was charming, it does have drawbacks: our room and the bathroom were small. In fact, the bathroom was so small that the toilet was in the shower! I experienced having a toilet in the shower various times 40 years ago when I travelled in Europe. However, I'm thinking Selcuk and certainly Turkey are too modern for such an arrangement in a hotel these days, 100-year old building notwithstanding... and certainly for the price of the room I would expect a more upscale bathroom. However, all was clean and the towels were not the usual air-dried boards we had been receiving at some other mid-priced hotels -- soft and sweet-smelling each day.
Internet was free, but depending on where we were in the room, reception was spotty. Outside in the courtyard Internet reception was fine.
