Stayed here for 4 nights june/July at a trate of approx US$110 per night including breakfast- 1st impresions seemed OK, location of hotel is very attractive with picturesque views over gardens and the bay of Izmir, reception area was attractive & check-in procedure quick & efficient, good lifts etc & rooms reasonably spaceous & well equipped although somewhat tired looking and the TV only had one English langeage programme 'BBC World'. Very good outdoor pool with loungers, towels & umbrellas and spa area, Sauna & Hamam (Tradditional turkish bathing area ) , table tennis free to guests. The heated pool was undergoing repairs & not in use - fortunately the weather was so hot the outdoor pool was very welcome
But unfortunately the bad points outweighed the good. A/C was noisy, one had little individual control of the settings & only managed to maintain temp between 78-80f. The daily servicing of my room was not done until early afternoon and on one ocassion used towels were removed but not replaced. It took 2 telephone calls and 30 minute wait until clean towels were brought. Not ideal when one is hoping to have a quick shower and go out.
Food & drink from the lobby cafe was extremely expensive eg. a small bottle of beer was 10TL (about £4 or US$8) a large bottle of water which cost 0.8TL outside in the shops was 10TL in the hotel and the food was of such small portions. For example what they described as a 'Princess Burger' which I would have described as a 'fun-sized thamburger.' or a '2-bite-burger' with about 10 small french fries cost the exorbitant sum of almost £6
Breakfast Buffet was OK but certainly not 5 -star and then was spoilt by the fairly chaotic amosphere and surroundings, on busy times you have to search hard for a table, on one day there was a queue of about 30 people to get juice or water from the drinks machine, I had a wait of about 15 minutes for a pot of tea.
The final point which would preclude me from using this hotel again was that on one occasion I had returned to the hotel from a short shopping trip I had a carrier bag containing a bottle of water and two bananas and on going through the security at reception I was told that I could not bring them into the hotel. I was asked to tjhe reception where I was informed that 'guests' or should it be 'inmates' are not allowed to bring food and beverages into the hotel from outside. I told them we were talking about a botle of water (part consumed ) and two bananas (totally unconsumed) but again I was told it was not permitted to bring them in. I said that this was totally unacceptbale to me and asked to se the manager. After waiting for a couple of minutes whist they tried to contact the manager (unsuccessfully) I said I was not prepared to wait any longer and went to my room with water and bananas. I was not surprised when I did not hear anything further.
Definetly not worthy of 5 stars - I have stayed in 3 star hotels which have better overall service and attitude to guests. All in all it was so unlike the service and attitude I have experience at virtually every other hotel I have stayed at in Turkey
