While on a bus tour through Turkey, we opted to book this tour on our own. The cost for four people was about the same as with our tour group, but Ephesus Tours allowed for a personal small group tour plus included lunch. (If you have six people, there are even better savings as the price drops from $74 per person to $59.)
We were picked up on time at our hotel and our guide Banu Akin took us to a very nice, large and newer model van. She explained all that we would be doing and made it clear that if we had anything we wanted - including additional stops - she would make sure we took care of it.
We hit up all the sites promised, including the Terrace Houses at Ephesus, which were worth the additional admission costs. Banu gave us a detailed and accurate description of everything we wee seeing. She showed a great amount of detailed knowledge about thhe restoration and reconstruction as well as the history of the famous sites.
Being in such a small group made it easy for us to get through the sites quicker and easily hear our guide. It was nice to avoid the big bus crowds that were everywhere we went.
Lastly, we went for the lunch included in the basic price. It was an outstanding home-cooked meal at the carpet making school. There we at least eight dishes - salad, bread, tomato puree, yogurt with garlic and mint, broccoli, potatoes and peppers, rice, and chicken. It was one of the best meals we have had a week into our tour.
