I was aware that I would visit Turkey, a country with millions of turists, different in culture, cooking and lifestyle from what I used to know. That is why, after reading previous hotel reviews, I decided to be tolerant.I couldn't stand the idea of hundrends of tourist busses until I got there and saw that things were excellent compared to what I had expected, and that this is a very good hotel.Big hotel, big entrance, good lobby, smiling, courteous staff, big hallways, many lifts. I was given a room on the fifth floor, sort of located in a corner,I could see the main road,I also had a good view over the place, but no noise could be heard from the cars.Big,spatious bathroom, good closet,TV with international channels. The only problem is that you cannot just close the door using the door knob nice and easy, you have to slam it.I asked them, that's the way it goes.Pity, but when you travel with a group, you all stay in the same wing,so everybody go to bed early, everybody have to follow the same program, and there is no door slamming late at night.Unfortunately there were two single beds in the room, and they were not my desired size even though I am not tall.
Dinner:I went to the dining room, asked for my group, friendly and smiling people more than one at the same time accompanied me and the others.I had no problem sitting, asking questions about the menu or ordering anything extra, maybe because I speak turkish. No drinks in a bottle;wine and beer are brought to you in a glass. No list of beverages anywhere. You order, you pay,you don't know what you get or what you pay, then again nobody asked for the wine list.
Food is average/no good.It is probably good if you are vegetarian.I stayed there three nights, every night there was chicken (same as in every other hotel I stayed in Turkey)and a selection of pasta, rice, beans, salad. The sweets are nothing special.I had breakfast once,I loved their coffee(even though I do not know what kind of coffee it was),and in general breakfast was not bad.
The town of Urgup is not far from the hotel but you need a taxi to get there. You will find no taxis on the street, but they call from the reception, the taxi comes there in no time, you pay 8 lira (3,5 euros),the same price you pay from the town to the hotel.Taxis are splendid, same as in every european country, the drivers are extremelly polite, helpful. In the town there is police everywhere,a tourist feels protected,I don't think that someone would feel threatened in this place.
The town of Urgup is lovely, you will find some places to sit and eat, maybe drink (I am not sure whether alcohol is served everywhere or not ;at least to women),supermarkets and pharmacies are open some of them until 23:00, 7 days a week.
It was a very good experience altogether and if I ever visit this place,I would like to stay in Perissia hotel again.
