“Enjoyed our stay”

Overall we quite enjoyed our stay at the Museum Hotel. Cappadocia was amazing to say the least. We went in December and are glad as being off season, we had the sights to ourselves and the landscape with the snow was beautiful. We stayed in a suite and it was great - large cave room, fireplace, huge bathroom. Everything you want/need. The location of the hotel is great, of course you need a car in Cappadocia or you need to take tours as we did for the sightseeing. We say kaymakli underground city, goreme open air museum, a whirling dervis show, few villages and a carpet plus pottery centre. Loved it. The hotel was very helpful in arranging our trips.

The food was a bit of a disappointment. Breakfast spread was large with many options but wouldn't say the layout etc was charming. Dinner was so so - fine to feed your hunger but nothing to look forward to. Few minutes with taxi was a restaurant called The Orient which had good food - they give this appetiser of tomatoes and olives cooked in the oven with garlic and basil and sugar which is wonderful.

My wife had a massage at the hotel and she said it was one of the best she's ever had so that was a pleasant surprise.

Hence, I would very much recommend this hotel. It's a bit expensive but a very nice place to stay.

“Fascinating, unique and comfortable accommodations”

My wife and I stayed at this wonderful hotel for three nights while visiting the Capadoccia area. We stayed in the Escape Suite, which was built from an ancient cave, like most of the rooms there. Our suite was very spacious and comfortable, with a sitting room off the bedroom, a modern marble bathroom with a huge shower, and a separate room with a lighted 2-person whirlpool tub. The bed was the best we slept in throughout our tour of Turkey. The restaurant was very good and had a broad range of traditional Turkish dishes on the menu. Perhaps the best part of this hotel is its location high above the valley floor. Standing on the pool terrace in the early morning, we saw dozens of hot air balloons ascending--truly an amazing spectacle! This hotel is not cheap, but you get a lot for your money. If you are going to Capadoccia, do not miss staying here.

“Loved the hotel and the service but not our room”

this is one of the most picturesque and beautiful sites and hotels one can imagine. The service was impecable and professional. Our room was under the stairs and so noisy that we could not sleep - I really don't like to have to wear earplugs to get a few hours of sleep when staying in a hotel that costs $550 a night!!!

great hotel, antiques on display, views for ever, restaurant was good and the wines from Turkey were very drinkable, great breakfast views of the hot air balloons while sipping your coffee and contemplating the scenery around you. would not recommend the in room massage unless you have a big room to fit the table and are very clear about which massage.

Room Tip: avoid the corner room if not so mobile which has a great view and turkish style seating area but sta...

“My favorite hotel in the world”

I've recently returned from my third visit to the Museum Hotel, and have just now seen the reviews, amazed and dismayed that the Trip Advisor ranking is low--so much so that I question the validity of the more negative comments. I would urge Trip Advisor to "vet" its reviewers carefully.

To get to the point, the Museum Hotel is very special as well as unique (its seemingly "slicker" competitor doesn't compare) in part because it has a "local" or "regional" feel, and does not lose out in an attempt to be "international."

I don't doubt that there may be glitches, and it would be doing a service to any hotel management for the guest to speak directly to the manager in situ so that these glitches can be addressed. For example, with it being a very small town, there are no waiting taxis; the front desk can arrange transportation. As for not knowing if one is to light the fireplace oneself (heaven forbid!), or where light switches might be, well, ASK! It's admittedly annoying to do that, but doing so in a nice way will help management know where the problems might be, including ongoing training of its staff. And, yes, I do admit that the wireless connection in the room can be spotty--hopefully it can be improved--but it is a property built into a cave/hillside (and I have had no fewer problems with connection in Manhattan!).

In short, the Museum Hotel is a very special place, and made more so in that it is "locally" owned and run, with the staff from the area (which means that the English may not be as good as a guest might like). Each room is unique (and if you definitely do not want an interior room, well, try to get one with a view and be willing to pay the difference!) and beautifully furnished. The breakfast includes fruit, jams, etc., that are grown/produced on the property; the dining room is superb, with local cuisine and wines (Turkey now produces excellent wines). It would be a wonderful honeymoon destination.

I also think it "fair" value: i.e., if you want five-star accommodation, be willing to pay for five stars. You can certainly get cheaper rooms around the corner, so if one is looking for a less expensive place to stay, well, you should do so.

Room Tip: There is probably a price difference in the rooms, so ask about that based on your needs.
