We stayed here at the end of our Cappadocia visit as we wanted to unwind and make use of their pool, saunas, and steam rooms. It's pricy. Some staff is well trained, other staff doesn't quite know what to do, so there is no seemless feeling of a 5-star resort. Hotel design is imaginative and deserves 5+ (think Atlantis in Ottoman style built into the rock) with stunning glass work in the hallways and amazing photo ops throughout. Rooms were ok, spa was so-so, restaurant was terrible.
Our room was small, but our bathroom was bigger with a two-person jacuzzi in the middle of a raised floor. Splendid, but no handles to get out of the jacuzzi onto slippery floor. Bathroom had very interesting mood lighting, but we still don't know how to turn it off for the night. Staff doesn't know either.
Spa was extensive, but not very well built. The salt room was good. The steam room was not as hot as one would expect it to be (the temperature sensor was in a wrong spot). The sauna was well built with fragrant wood, but the head rests had nails in them!!! [Before you start thinking I'm too picky, think about this: you are in a very hot room, you're lying down, adjusting your towel, and get burned by hot metal. I'm a big fan of saunas and nails are a big no-no. Only very poorly built saunas might have them as it's a health hazard.] Swimming pool is very nicely designed with cascading water and air jets, but it's in dire need of renovation (buttons for cascades are not working, so you have to ask staff to switch it on somewhere downstairs, romanesque statues that should have water pouring out of them are forgotten, sun roof is leaking into the pool).
Their restaurant is grossly overpriced for the quality of food and service. For 150TL for two people (no drinks included) some sauces were store-bought (I recognise the taste), fish was overdone, dessert was straight out of Dr Oetker packages. The restaurant is a rip-off. Don't go.
This review might sound too harsh. If this hotel was positioning itself differently, including the price point, the review would be different. But, for 250 EUR/night in Turkey we expect to get the best. When it turns out to be less than best, it doesn't stand up to reputation this hotel is trying to build.
P.S. Later on in the trip we stayed in a Kempinski for 100 EUR/night less. The overall experience was much better, not even counting the difference in price.
