“THE place to stay in gorëme”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

We arrived in Gorëme at 8 am in the morning! we visited a few houses, we were not convinced, it was winter, some of them were too expensive, some were so dark, and others did not smell that good...
we finally ended up at anatolia cave pension, the hotel has rooms in one of the mushrooms!! we were given a double bed room, perfectly clean, nice bathroom, warm and that allowed us to live the experience of capadoccia (ceiling is low, you ARE in a cave).
and on top of all, the couple holding the place is just adorable, the owner explains you in detail all the places to go and see in the region, gives you all the options. breakfast is turkish and good (if you like olives in the morning! i did). in the evening before going for dinner (i recommend nazar borek, excellent plates and great owner) you can sit in the living room, playing tavla, cards, chatting, in a nice and warm atmosphere. and the price is really not expensive.
go for it and you can also visit their website which is quite interesting!

“Turkish hospitality at its best! Lovely location”

HOSTS - AWESOME!
Bekir and Brit (and an older gentlemen whose name I didn't catch) were amazing hosts. They felt like family members more than hotel staff. Or rather, they really welcomed us to their homes like family.

LOCATION
Anatolia Pension is located in a very central place. It's 15min walk to the Open Air Museum and it's also a 20 min hike to the start of the Rose Valley. Because it's in the city center, the hotel is 5 min walk to many shops, restaurants, and the bus station. If you want a panoramic view of Goreme, you probably should try to stay at one of the top cave rooms, book another hotel (which would require renting a car or only doing tours), or just hike around the valleys near Anatolia Pension.

ACTIVITIES
HIKE -- if you have some time to hike on your own (1 full day), I'd definitely recommend hiking on your own to the Rose Valley and Red Valley all the way to the fairy chiminies.
You get much closer look of the mountains and it's spectacular. You'll see 3 different types of rock formation, one of which look like the grand canyon. When you reach the active mosque and ancient churches on top of the Rose Valley, you'll be near Cavusin. Once there, try to hike as high as you can on top of the churches. You'll have about 270 degree view of Gerome -- 2 different but amazing rock formation and the city view.

HOT AIR BALLOON RIDE -- poor luck, we arrived when it was rainy and extremely foggy. Having seen the rock formation up close on our hikes, I really wish we had the chance to go on a balloon ride, that is, on a sunny day. One thing that's great about booking through Bekir and Brit is that you have 100% money back guarantee in case the balloon doesn't take off due to weather.

DRIVE -- I am not a huge fan of going on tours, but I did go on the Green Tour that Bekir recommended. Because the Green Tour actually covers quite a bit of distance (total about 3 hrs of driving from one place to another), I thought the tour was very convenient. But the Red Tour covers much shorter distance. So if you want to do think on your own pace, I reckon you can just rent a car and do the Red Tour on your own. I decided to hike on my own and walk every where. It was amazing but I was unable to cover as much distance as I would have liked to.

“Good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2010

We can recommend this pension. Our family stayed in a lovely room with a beautiful bathroom.

The children - a girl of 10 and a boy of 15 - loved their cave-like room.

And the service from Bekir and Britt - and from their staff - was very nice. A nice, small pension, which is well placed for Open Air Museum. Good value for the reasonable price to pay to stay there.

“Go there”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2010

The hotel (hostel) provides different styles of rooms. Starting with the backpacker style where you share toilet and shower and ending up with cave rooms with your own bathroom. Very friendly owner and personel who offers personal service to all guests. They speek several languages including English, German and Norwegian. This made our stay even easier. We allso used the hotel to find a private guide for us (very successful) and allso to arrange for a hot air balloon trip (an absolute must do experiance). Our first impression when we checked in was that this looked a bit shabby, but we realised that we where in the late season and the first impression was only created by the flowers and trees around. When we met the owner and got a good cup of tea (or coffe) and then setteled down the first impression was blown away. We would stay there again if going to Cappadokia.
