I stayed at the Legend Cave hotel and it really was one of the highlights of my stay in Goreme. The owner of the hotel was charming, good humoured and very hospitable and help arranged our balloon trip and gave us tips on getting around which were really helpful. The room I stayed in was comfortable, very clean with a amazing jacuzzi/shower and with nice decor and I was able to access the internet from my room. The breakfast had a comprehensive selection of food and the staff were really friendly.

I travelled with a group of friends and we would spend most evening back at the hotel because it was so comfortable or in the reception chatting with the owner and his family. I would recommend this as a place to stay of it's in your budget and you want a relaxing place to go back to after a day of sightseeing.

We stayed at the Legend Cave Hotel Dec 25 & 26. Despite the good location and ok service, the rooms were awful.
I was allocated a room just next to the public toilet and managed to swop with someone travelling in the same group who wanted to be next door to his parents.
Living in a cave hotel sounds nice and fun but it just isn't. Our room stank of sewage, there were tiny bugs flying around, it was dusty, the carpets were filthy, the bed mattress soft, and it looked like the bed covers have never been washed. The bathroom was dirty, the bath tub, basin and toilet bowls were brown and probably have not been scrubbed for the longest time. The were smaill nails in the wall that don't serve any purpose so be careful how you walk.
The TV was located at an odd angle to the bed so we had to place it on the floor to watch. One minute the heater was switched off and the next, it was switched on high. A dog was chained downstairs and it barked and howled incessantly each night so we could not get any sleep.
The food was cold and the variety and standard was poor.
Sadly, the good location, nice view and moderately helpful staff could not make up for the lousy room experience.

Deciding on accommodations in Cappadocia can be a daunting task, so many places to chose from. I decided to use Lonely Planet as a starting point and then double check on tripadvisor.com, and settled on the "Legend Cave Hotel" in what appeared to be a good combination of price and quality ... bad idea !

The hotel rooms are in desperate need of updating, in particular the bathrooms where the fixtures were old, falling apart and cramped. Order number one should be replacing the useless and space consuming jacuzzi bathtubs with proper showers.

The rate, not cheap, includes breakfast, but you'd better get to it within the first hour if you don't want to be forced to look for personnel to replenish the meager offerings.

The hotel offers wireless access, which is handy ... when it works (about half the time).

You can book tours and rental car through them, at some of the highest prices in Goreme, not negotiable (unusual for Turkey) and without discount as a hotel guest.

Service and attitude are decidedly poor, very surprising for Turkey where they really mean it when they talk about "Turkish Hospitality".

All is explained when you meet the owner. His constant jokes always fall flat and reveal his true personality: obnoxious boor.

The search for a accommodations in Cappadocia has become a little easier: remove the "Legend Cave" from your list.

Nice family run hotel. A friendly welcome at the airport by hotel staff, beautiful hotel built into one of the hoodoos with a large balcony with a view of the surroundings. We felt comfortable and safe. We were not impressed by the hard sell by the hotel owner to upgrade our room and purchase tour tickets immediately upon arrival, however it was nice to book a couple of quick tours as our time was limited. We enjoyed breakfast in a relaxed dining area with other travellers.
