We enjoyed a wonderful stay in the pretty and atmospheric pension - rooms were comfortable and spotlessly clean, and prettily decorated. The lovely roof terrace has a beautiful view over the old town - we enjoyed delicious Turkish breakfasts here - fresh produce and delicious tea/coffee, served by incredibly warm, friendly and attentive hosts. Even with a very early departure, our hosts treated us to a delicious breakfast of fresh bread and delectable chocolate spread. This is truly home from home where one is treated like a good friend or member of the family.

we asked for a double room with private bathroom; the room was small, but clean and nicely decorated; the bathroom so tiny that you could not sit on the toilet and close the door... We were on the top floor, which consists of the room, the terrace and... an open kitchen, which means that you'll be awake every morning at 7.30 when the owner gets breakfast ready. And as the window looks out on the terrace, you cannot draw the curtains or all other guests will be in your room, which gets really painful when you only have one bulb to light the room because the second one is out of order.
We spent 3 weeks in Turkey, this room was the most expensive we booked (80 YTL) and on top of that, we had to add 8 YTL/day for parking. No need to say that for this price, we could expect a more quiet room with more privacy.

All the positive comments made by other reviewers are true - helpful and very friendly owners, lovely view from the terrace, good breakfast etc (and there isn't a lot of choice in Ayvalik which hasn't really hit the hotel age). Also the 'honesty box' approach to taking drinks from the fridge is a really nice touch and very welcome.

BUT - and I checked this with our confirmation details afterwards - I specifically asked for and was offered 2 double rooms with en-suite bathrooms. On arrival we had one very nice double bedroom and one extremely small, totally interior room with no external window and barely enough room for two adults to move (the room was so small the bed was hemmed in by the wall on 3 sides). The 'en-suite' bathroom was a separate room that all 4 of us shared with a French family in another room. The Kelebek has two rooms with no exterior window but the other only has a single bed.

In the end it didn't spoil anything for us - we now laugh about Ayvalik as the place where Mum and Dad slept in the cupboard. We can still recommend the place but please make sure you ask for exactly what you want.

I was welcomed with a sunny "We were expecting you", assisted with my luggage and the fan turned on just as I stepped into my immaculate room. The interior of Kelebek Pansiyon is modern, fresh and inviting, even though it is located in the older part of Ayvalik. The view from the top floor breakfast patio overlooks Ayvalik and the sea and is absolutely charming, encouraging you to forget everything but your holiday. Discreet modern Turkish classical music is played at breakfast time. The breakfast itself is scrumptious consisting of boiled eggs, creatively drizzled with olive oil and aromatic organum, sesame bagels, olives, sweet tomato, cucumber and homemade apricot jam (and tea and coffee). I was interested in some aspects of Turksh history and the charming owner collected books from her own collection for me to read. I needed accommodation for my stay in Bergama and this was quietly and efficiently organised for me. I was given a map recommedning places to visit, including a bakery, the owner of which treated me to a complementary glass of cherry juice and a mouth-watering wholewheat shortbread biscuit, just for showing him the recommendation. I had a most peaceful and enjoyable stay at Kelebek Pansiyon. I highly recommend this guesthouse.
