Enjoyed our two-night stay at this pension very much. It's in the heart of the old Greek town, surrounded by buildings that are tumbledown in a picturesque way, but the pension itself has been immaculately restored with some nice character touches. The owners are a Turkish couple -- he speaks excellent American-accented English, and she makes a really superior breakfast which you can enjoy on the breezy terrace with an unbeatable view over the old town and the Aegean. (Don't miss the spicy paste which she makes herself -- a real sinus-clearer to start your day.) Our room was spotlessly clean, with a big bay window, large bathroom, and comfortable air-conditioning. At 110 lira (about 50 euros) it was perhaps the most expensive in the place; more economical options are available with shared (and again spotless) bathroom. The location is only 200 metres or so to the heart of downtown, by a direct cobblestoned street that makes it easy to find your way home afterward. Highly recommended.

We stayed at the Kelebek Pension for two nights and had a lovely stay. We were fortunate to get the top floor room mentioned by other reviewers. We had the terrace in front of our room all to ourselves most of the time and the early morning activity didn't bother us as we're usually up early.

The room was nicely furnished, had great views over the town and a very comfortable bed. The breakfasts we had were delicious and very ample. You'll need to leave your car in a nearby parking lot and walk uphill to the pension as it is in the old Greek part of town.

The owners, Mustapha and Alev, were extremely helpful, warm and friendly. We spent quite a bit of time talking with them and getting to know one another. They've made the Kelebek a very comfortable, welcoming place to stay that I would highly recommend.

Ayvalik is a fascinating town to walk around and all you have to do is step out the door of the pension and you are on your way to an interesting day.

We agree with all the positive comments on this site and can add a few more thoughts. Ours was the room at the top overlooking the breakfast terrace, so we had to be up by 8 am (no problem) but our hosts were very quiet and considerate until they knew we were up. The plus side about this room was that we had the magnificent patio and panoramic views of the old town and the sea at our disposal each evening. And we were most impressed by our knowledgable and friendly hosts, who were happy to talk about all things Turkish -- history, culture, the economy, education, politics, etc.
Best of all ... the beds were great in this quiet, traffic-free neighbourhood.
