“Nice place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

I stayed with my family at this lovely hotel for a week, we all thought our rooms were very clean and nice. The rooms were quite small but over all we were very happy with the rooms. We got rooms on the 2:nd level overlooking the pool/ bar area.

The hotel is situated in a lovely garden setting just about 20 meters or so from the sea which was lovely. The hotel felt very relaxed and safe.

Staff was very kind and service minded which I always appreciate. The pool was not huge, but very pleasant to swim in with the bar only a few meters away, it was a perfect afternoon hangout place. One thing which was very annoying was that the people who had stayed at the hotel longer than us had some sort of system worked out which meant that they always put out their towels on the sun beds around the pool in the morning before breakfast, but they didn’t use them until a few hours after lunch, which meant that the "good seats" around the pool were taken (but vacant!) half the day until the guests returned to their "reserved seats". This so called “reservation of the seats” also happened at the hotel´s section of the beach (so if you want good places by the pool or beach get up early!). We never stayed at Hotel Dogans beach section since we though it was too small and crowded (and the beach was stony), instead we walked down about 200 meters to the right of the hotel (Kala Beach) where the beach was wider, and there was no stones to bang your feet against.

The only thing I can really fault about the hotel is its food. I think food at a hotel is a real hit or miss, and in this case it was not so good. We only had the option to book an "all inclusive holiday" for which all food and drinks were included, but we grew tired of the breakfast only after one day. Lunches and dinners are pretty much the same, the food doesn´t taste like anything which resulted in us going out for dinner and lunch almost every day (there are a lot of nice restaurants around). This hotel could gain a lot more business only by shaping up its buffet food : less food of a higher quality rather than loads of very bland tasting food. (The food served in their a la carte restaurant/ pub "My Way" was much better, although the staff there weren´t as nice as the ones in the hotels main restaurant.

So should you stay at Hotel Dogan? Well if you want a nice and clean and comfortable hotel in Side, close to the beach/ restaurants (the hotel is close to the buzzing old part of Side with all the shops and restaurants) I would recommend you tried it- I would come stay there again.

“Off To Bad Start”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2008

Like prevous reviewer had four great nights in Istanbul then arrived at Dogan to be told they had overbooked and was sent to neighbouring Hotel which was very poor. Small rooms, the first room we were given had a horrible smell of drains we were moved to another which was also small but no smell. We also had to wait till midday to get room in the Dogan and decided to take a twin as we were shown a double but it still needed cleaning and making up and we did not want to waste anymore time. The room was clean and tidy but very basic, towels worn and only a soap dispenser in bathroom. The breakfasts are not worth paying for, very little fruit a few segments of orange and grapefruit and sometimes melon, if you want orange juice instead of the sweet diluted drinks offered, or an omlette instead of the cold hard boiled eggs you are expected to pay extra!!! The location is good, right on the local beach and within walking distance of the main Town and sights etc but that is about all this hotel has going for it. We were also told that they would give us an evening meal to compensate, but when we tried to use this in the restaurant was told it was only for the buffet which was provided for guests on full board. I offered to pay the difference to eat al la carte but was refused, so needless to say I can't comment on the food as we never ate there. If anyone at the Dogan reads this don't you realise youy cost yourselves money by not caring about your customers!!!
The cleaning staff were very friendly, so was the girl on reception, and the beach staff. Customers should also be aware that they play music around the pool all day till about midnight

“Quite a shock!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2008

We arrived after 4 great nights in Istanbul to be told the hotel was over booked and we would have to go to the next door hotel!!!!!
All we wanted to do was unpack and relax, not able to do this as we would have to move the following morning. We finally got to our room about midday!!!!!!!!! All we got was a meal in the evening from the buffet which had been out for about an hour and had not been replenished, quite bad. We were in room 218 which was overlooked by other balconies felt abit like animals in the zoo, needless to say we hardly sat out and if we did there was the smell of cigarette smoke everywhere.
Position of hotel was fair with a 20 minute walk to the beach on the otherside of the peninsula away from alot of the tourists. About the same distance to the old town, various ruins and sights closer.
Breakfast was pretty samey.
Girls on reception were friendly.

“Super hotel Great location”

Having been to Side many times I took my Mum this time and wanted somewhere close to the Old Town with its own swimming pool.
The 4 of us women had a great time here at the Dogan, friendly staff, great food, well priced and the perfect location for us to enjoy long walks, along the beach, around the ruins and living it up in the Old Town in the evening.
